VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN LLLCD 1368
Music by Craig Armstrong
RETAIL PRICE: $15.98

STARTS SHIPPING NOV 19th

ORDER “VICTOR FRAKENSTEIN” at www.lalalandrecords.com on NOV 19th starting at 12noon.
La-La Land Records, 20th Century Fox and Fox Music present the CD release of the original motion picture score to the feature film VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, starring Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Freddie Fox. The film is directed by Paul McGuigan from a screen story and screenplay by Max Landis. The producer is John Davis. The film opens in theaters everywhere November 25.

Acclaimed composer Craig Armstrong (FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, THE GREAT GATSBY, LOVE ACTUALLY, MOULIN ROUGE!) unleashes a powerhouse orchestral score to propel this dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale, starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation. Brimming with dramatic thrills and sweeping emotion, Armstrong’s score is a feast for the ears and one of the year’s most notable works.

“Craig is a true artist that needs to understand the director’s vision,” says director Paul McGuigan, “He really wants to understand the ideas and the drive behind each scene and how this affects character and action… He creates work that elevates and complements your work and ultimately he makes the film better… he makes you better.”

“From the very start we had the same artistic vision for the music,” remarks composer Craig Armstrong. “We discussed certain sound elements and phrases we wanted to include among the orchestral elements of the score. We blended the orchestra with vintage synthesizers and unusual acoustic instruments like the glass armonica. The score was written in my studio in Glasgow over several months and finally recorded at Air Studios in London.”

Produced by Craig Armstrong and mastered by Simon Francis at Simon Francis Mastering, this special CD soundtrack release will be available at www.lalalandrecords.com on November 17, 2015 and at major music retailers on November 20, 2015. A digital download version will also be available from Fox Music.

Renowned composer/conductor/arranger Carmen Dragon creates an astoundingly complex and groundbreaking work, (his inventive use of low, staccato piano notes for suspense would inspire many composers to do the same) that perfectly emboldens the film’s sci-fi terror and paranoia, while never neglecting the story’s human emotions or its psychological and sociological underpinnings. Produced for La-La Land Records by Carmen Dragon’s son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Henn and Neil S. Bulk, with an analog transfer from the original full-track mono session tapes, restored and mastered by Stephen Marsh, and lacquers cut from the restored, high-resolution digital master by Kevin Gray, this limited edition release of 1000 Units is pressed on 180 gram, pod-green vinyl and features beautiful, haunting original album art by artist Miles Teves! In-depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond, grace the inner jacket in headline-grabbing newspaper fashion, designed by Dan Goldwasser. I'm actually fonder of Airplane II than Airplane, because:
-Cute use of Battlestar Galactica Theme.
-Wonderful exchange with Julie Haggerty and Judge Perry Mason - "Your honor, have you ever laughed like that?" "Yes, yes I have."
-"Over Macho Grande?" "No, I guess I'll never get over Macho Grande."
-Best. William. Shatner. Cameo. Ever.
-And it's in space! Stupid in space!

Yet I didn't think seriously about buying the soundtrack when I saw it announced, since I don't listen much to most of the comedy soundtracks I own.

But given my fondness for the movie, and how I keep staring at that goofy, adorable cover art, plus I missed the original Airplane release, and this serves as a nice summary - this darn thing must be mine indeed!

(P.S. Plus, this is really expert arrangement and interpolation of very different pieces of music, so the result sounds musical not just mickey-mousy. Just listen to the terrific opening mashup of Wagner's Flying Dutchman and BSG - it's ideal. EDIT: Thanks to chriss for correcting my mistake in originally thinking it was Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.)

"I guess irony can be pretty ironic sometimes."

I saw Airplane 2 (on TV with additional footage*) before the first film when I was a kid and for a long time, I thought it was actually a little funnier. I've since changed my mind but this movie still makes me laugh.

*It's a shame footage like this rarely makes it to DVD/BR as a supplement. I couldn't believe how short some of the Police Academy movies were on DVD after growing up watching them taped from broadcast TV.

"No tower? Why the hell aren't I notified about these things?!"

"A bobby pin? What the hell is a man doing with a bobby pin?"

"Never heard of him. That's not exactly true. We were like brothers."

Alright, then:

"Oh, cut the bleeding heart crap will ya? We've all got our switches, lights, and knobs to deal with, Striker. I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking, beeping and flashing - they're flashing and they're beeping. I can't stand it anymore! They're blinking and beeping and flashing! Why doesn't somebody pull the plug?"

Going on from seans comment about macho grande...

I once played in a doubles tennis match against another club where the format was first to win 10 games.
My partner and i were 9-5 up and i was serving for the match. Despite having match point three times I lost my serve. They then proceeded to win the next 5 games in a row to beat us 9-11. It was a tortuous collapse where we couldnt arrest the slide. Death by a thousad slow cuts.
This defeat became known between my partner and i as Macho grande!
And whenever this monumental crushing gets discussed one of us says "i'll never get over macho grande!"

We were ahead in a final last week and half way thru he said to me: "no macho grandes!"

So movie dialogue pervading life - its become synonymous with a total disaster/collapse. A "macho grande".

Thank you for listening.

I ordered Victor Frankenstein from Amazon as soon as it was announced in September, but now it has been removed from the available items, and my copy did not ship for delivery today with two other CDs that also come out today.

Has Amazon's batch just been delayed?

Or will it no longer be available through them?

Should I cancel my Amazon order? Or do you think they'll be getting stock soon? I prefer to order from them because I have Prime, and don't have to pay for shipping.

Couple questions RE: Airplane II that I didn't see covered in the liners...

1 - Was Bernstein approached to score the sequel? If no, why not? If yes, what happened?

2 - What was the motivation behind using BSG music? It works swimmingly, but was a relatively unusual thing to do, so curious how that came together.

interested in the facts if anybody has them...

I cannot stop listening to VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN. It's stunning, hugely thematic, sweeping, like the best 1990s works that made me fall in love with film scores. There's a definite similarity to Doyle's score, in tone and style, but this is absolutely classic Armstrong, filled with hummable themes, everyone should pick it up. It's the score of the year for me!!!!

Because of the upcoming sale I listened to the sound samples and came here to ask the same question about the BSG music! Seems like an odd choice as it's surely (no pun intended) not recognizable to most people. Thus the "comedy" would go over 99% of the audiences head.
