If you want a good compilation with some of his strongest themes I can recommend the 2CD "For the Record - Angelo Badalamenti".

http://www.soundtrack.net/album/for-the-record-angelo-badalamenti/

I'd definitely recommend:

Music From Twin Peaks album
(close to the entire Twin Peaks music is available as a download archive through Lynch's site)
Mulholland Drive
Stalingrad
The Beach

If you like thriller scores:
Arlington Road
Dark Water
The Wicker Man

Twin Peaks and The Straight Story are must-haves. The Beach is great if you can find it for a reasonable price. The Comfort of Strangers is very good.

If you like Twin Peaks, move forward to Fire Walk With Me and the volume 2.

If you LOVE Twin Peaks, buy the download Archives, a mostly complete bundle.

Aside from his Themes from TWIN PEAKS and the haunting theme from BLUE VELVET, I love his scores to CITY OF LOST CHILDREN and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT.

Stalingrad is the best place where to start... or his Music for Films and Television compilation.
Comfort of Strangers is also very good as well as Tough Guys don't Dance.

I used to have more Badalamenti CDs than I've got now. Twin Peaks didn't appeal to me, along with some of his other stuff.

The ones that I've kept which I really like are:

-- The Wicker Man
-- The City Of Lost Children
-- A Very Long Engagement
-- Stalingrad
-- Dark Water

Yeah, Lynch and Badalamenti were made for each other, a composer/director duo that often gets overlooked. Great storytelling there.

I like the story, but I get a kind of uneasy feeling watching him tell it that way :-/

Herrmann and Hitchcock immediately spring to mind....I get the same vibes.

You are welcome, Leo. I tried to find Maria's theme from Cousins on youtube, but it has evaded me so far.

For me:

- Stalingrad
- Straight Story
- Twin Peaks
- A very Long Engagement

I've seen mr. Badalamenti in Ghent a few times. Seems like a very nice person and a great storyteller.
