While it, of course, experiments with soundscapes, it does so in more interesting ways than other scores do. AND it incorporates Conti´s themes in a very intelligent way, establishing a continuity with the previous Rocky scores that maybe just tickles my nostalgia - but it sure wins me over. Score seems perfect for the franchise... perfectly incorporating Conti yet updating it's soundscape for it's 2015 setting. So glad a got a release. Never expected to hear such thrilling - and Conti-like - music, infused with a modern groove, but also delivering a cool retro vibe. Just WOW!!! (It was nice to not have the soundtrack in my head before I saw the film.) On the way out the publicist was handing out the soundtrack LP. I played it endlessly, reliving the film in my head. That soundtrack was electricity. (I didn't like the fact that the theme became so popular that everyone was using it. It was getting overplayed.) l liked the Rocky II soundtrack, and played that a lot. The scores to the sequels became forgettable. The Creed soundtrack is hitting me in the same way the original Rocky LP did, and once more electricity is pounding through me. (Seriously, the only track I skip over is the first one, Juvy.) This is easily one of the best soundtracks of the year. Where on earth did this Göransson come from? Creed is a massive orchestral score with a great theme by Göransson (as well as a love theme Raiders of the Ark fans will adore) and selected interpolations of Conti. The quality of work here is akin to David Arnold in 1994 with Stargate. Astonishing new voice but still respecting the masters. I thought CREED was a fine, touching movie. I thought the music was really good and interesting. I liked the kind of power anthem theme composed for Adonis Creed. There were a few references to Conti’s great Rocky themes. I kept hoping for a few more measures of Conti’s themes, but overall, this composer did a wonderful job. I thought Michal B. Jordan was fine as Creed. The real surprise was Stallone. He took his iconic Rocky character and added new depth, dimension and layers to this beloved man.
