The director's previous couple flicks were scored by Rolfe Kent. It would have been interested to hear what Kent could have done with the subject matter but Velázquez is a pretty sweet choice for this, I think.

Ha! No way! Interesting indeed. Velazquez is really starting to roll. Let's see what he cooks up!

Crimson Peak will be released, I'm sure. The movie isn't even out yet in most of the world!

My most anticipated Velázquez score is A Monster Calls. The book is simply devastating so I hope Velázquez manages to bring to it both his supernatural strengths and the dramatic depths he achieved in The Impossible.

Completely agreed about this. Based on THE ORPHANAGE he's tailor made for this project - That score still has, I think, his best and most melancholy theme. It's not as grandiose as The Impossible but I do, in truth, find it more evocative and memorable a melody. He and the director of those films have had a strong and fruitful working relationship and I look forward to seeing what else they do going forward as their movies, presumably, continue to grow in scope.

slightly longer trailer...

The movie opens in February... hopefully the score won't end up like his brilliant OUT OF THE DARK.

Sounds gorgeous: Velazquez' beautiful and romantic string writing mixed with modern action.
Definitely looking forward to this one!

For some reason "We Are Under Attack!!" reminds me of kung fu action flick.

The score is on Spotify and Wow this is fantastic. I wasn't a big fan of Crimson Peak or Hercules (though it was slightly better with a decent theme) but this is a mix of all of the best orchestral elements of my favorite Velazquez scores. I could easily see a suite going in nicely with the new Concert Suites and Themes album, which should arrive in the mail here any day now. I'm going to program out a few of the annoying source cues that should have been placed at the end of the album but so far so good. And I am not even completely done with it yet.

Beautiful , very rich score, exciting but musically substantial....being a big-ish Hollywood action "period" piece, the natural comparison is with Hercules.
I have to say I didn’t like Hercules that much: for sure it has its moments, but to me Hercules is what Thor is to Patrick Doyle, a tremendously talented composer dumbing down its style..
The (clunkily nicknamed) PPZ score strikes a very good balance between what is apparently expected from an action score nowadays, and Velazquez's more sophisticated (and, I believe, much more personal) outings.
Too bad that the score is totally undeserved by the movie, which not only is really terrible, but is also tanking badly at the box office, and it’s likely to be forgotten soon. This job won’t give EV much lasting credit, I’m afraid.

At times, a bit hit and miss, but those last two tracks are bloody gorgeous!
I love him in that Allerdale Hall mode.

Can't stop listening to the last track Happy Ending?
Such a lovely melody.
I think Velazquez is my favourite theme writer of the new blood of film composers.
