Sorry if it's been mentioned, but could someone clarify what exactly the "missing pivotal moment" described in the notes refers to? Thanks! smile

I think that was "Wrong Name"

But "Wrong Name" was on the Prometheus release too, at the same track length of 2:25.

Ok, so I'm going to guess that the "missing" pivotal moment is the alternate pre-closing credits did-she-or-didn't-she final reveal "An Unending Story" moment right before the Closing Credits.

Ah right. Yeah, that's pretty pivotal. Great cue. It has me punching the air a lot.

I know Ford. I work with Ford. He's an asshole all around -- in life and on the boards -- but he's an 100% honest asshole and that's what I respect about him. Are you one or are you just one of these cyber bullies who are just posers?

Ha, I like that quote... almost like a line by David Mamet for a Howard Hawks movie.

It's tiresome to bitch about things that are a matter of personal taste like track placement, bonus tracks and fonts (F.F.S.). One person's likes may be another person's dislikes

I always hated the placement of the source cue "That's real music" within the program of the Prometheus CD as well, but hey, that's life. I just always programmed it out, problem solved.

What I liked about the Prometheus CD though is that it included all the silky, sensual suspense music from the first quater of the movie, something that was missing from the Varese CD. While the Varese release was a good listen for what it was back then, the Prometheus added more depth and dimension to the score. I like the score enough, I own all three releases of it. I think the Quartet will be the last word for me on the score now though. ;-)

I love that the Quartet uses the correct take (take 59) of "The First Victim" for the End Titles. The very end of the cue ends quite differently to the other takes. There's more of a finite resolution. The Prometheus got this wrong. I suspect they reused take 61 for their End Title assembly...?

With the impending repress of Total Recall, presumably tied in with Studio Canal's new 4K disc release of the film, I'm hoping it's not too much of a jump to think Basic Instinct will likewise get a reissue, seeing as it was another title in the initial press release from Studio Canal announcing a 4K disc release this year. Sound plausible/probable..?

Is is not only plausible... it is ESSENTIAL! Studio Canal did announce that Basic Instinct was going to be on their planned 4K releases so if they follow through on what they did for Flash Gordon and Total Recall, we might be in for a treat! And on a personal level, Basic Instinct is in such dire need of a restoration since that film has never looked good on home video, VHS or Blu-ray. And if Studio Canal's work has been any indication, it may just turn out to be what we've been looking forward to after all these decades! To give you an idea, a blu-ray.com reviewer reviewed the Flash Gordon 4K disc and had this to say.

"Let me just start by saying that as I am neither the Pope nor some other reviewers both online and in print media, I do not claim to be infallible, and so I hereby retract my statement from my review of the Universal release that Flash Gordon has "always been ugly." All I can say is, it was always ugly in every previous iteration I've seen, but this new transfer was something of a revelation for me in terms of the film's rather gorgeously saturated palette."

Fingers crossed Basic Instinct gets all the love and attention these releases have gotten!
