But the only Batman series for which we need every single magnificent note is the 90s animated series IMO...

There's room for both, my fine feathered fouls.

the running up the steps of Gotham Police HQ

That's heard at least once briefly in the film score, as I recall. I have it in one of my personal edited suites, I believe.

Not the one that was used most often. I know the other one you're thinking of (heard in the movie during the helicopter take-off sequence) and that did emerge as an alternate cue later in S2 after it had been composed specifically for the movie. The more familiar one has a brass fanfare at the start.

An argument could be made for a listenable "bat experience," Riddle's music for "Fine Feathered Finks" (first Penguin ep) alone featuring over a half hour of score.

I assume you're counting "The Penguin's A Jinx," because there is no way a half-hour show could have over a half-hour of score.

I think the best, fullest version of arriving at headquarters is in "Hi Diddle Riddle."

My favorite "Dynamic Duo in Jeopardy" cue is in "The Penguin Declines," at the top of Act 1. It's when Robin is being swallowed whole by a giant clam. It's a Kodak moment, for sure, but the music is actually the best part.

I think a two-disc set of series highlights would be fine. A box set with every fight scene and so forth would be a bit much to sit through.

It's my understanding that when Riddle originally scored the episode (on 4 January 1966) he did so as a single hour-long segment, hence, "Fine Feathered Finks" (also the only title listed on Lorenzo Semple Jr's November 1965 final draft script).

Definitely not mine! Between "Mask of Fantasm" and "The Flash", there is enough "Joker tilt-a-whirl" and generally boring material to consider that side of Batman closed.

Give me 1966 season one at least and the "King Tut" episodes (the best enemy), season three could be combined with "The Green Hornet", which sound the same (of course, both May), you can even add "Tony Rome" to pad things out.

The rights are very very complicated and we hope to make it happen someday. Honestly its my holiest of grails.

Thank you for saying so. I hope it can happen. The DVDs were sorted out, so maybe this too.

I actually found May's Green Hornet music to be much easier on the ears than his screamingly over the top work on Batman. While I don't hate his Batman work as some tend to, his Green Horner scores are far superior and exciting. The same? Maybe in a general sense, since it's the same composer, but the differences are apparent to me. I'd prefer GH get its own presentation. Both on CD and home video.

I do agree that I've had enough Batman TAS to last me.

I really LOVE that you used the spoiler code for that. Such a wonderfully cheesy monster.

May's contributions get pissed on a lot, bit I really enjoy them. I'm glad they freshened things up for season 3

The one series where I preferred May to Riddle was "Naked City" where I preferred May's theme for Seasons 2-3 (the first two hour long seasons) to Riddle's for the final season.

Three years on and it still looks like we're no further on seeing a Batman 66 CD TV soundtrack release yet?
