I'm a little behind on the Upgrades but right now I have LEOPARD O S 10.5.8 in my Mac.

I wanted to Upgrade to SNOW LEOPARD, so I bought on ebay a SNOW LEOPARD OS 10.6.2 because On-Line downloads wouldn't work and they suggested buying the Disc.

When I go to install, it tells me I cannot Install this on my computer.

Maddening that I spent the money.

I'm a computer moron I guess.

Why can't you go from 10.5.8 to 10.6.2? Says you need at least 10.6

SONAMBIX

Any help would be great.

This all started when I couldn't get to youtuble or my gmail anymore. Couldn't watch some movies or clips cause I had to update to lasted Adobe Flash Player which the updates would not be allowed on my computer. Then something about FIREFOX or something Chrome. It's all a blur to me. Am I just a victim of an outdated computer that need THIS to get THAT but since I don't have THAT I can't get THIS. Maddening.

Help.

And I lost my Itunes or don't have access to them anymore, cause I need the latest Quicktime player that AGAIN I can't access on my computer.

I think when I was having the problem with gmail and youtube. I went from TIGER to LEOPARD and that's when I lost my itunes I had on TIGER. Now LEOPARD won't open ANY Itunes at all.

I believe I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard just so I could jump up to Mavericks, which I couldn't do otherwise. I had no issues with either upgrade. It could be your hardware doesn't support Snow Leopard.

That seems to be the case. I'm hearing there may be a way of Clean Installing it by wiping out the existing OS. I guess I just need a professional to handle it. I'll probably wind up really messing my computer up, doing it myself.

It's always something.

What does your Snow Leopard installation disc look like? Is it gray with some text written on it, or is it white with a picture of an actual snow leopard?

The gray ones you get when you buy the computer, not the one with photo. Got it off ebay.

That is where your problem lies. The gray ones are called "Recovery Discs" and they are locked to the hardware they are supplied with. You cannot use them to install the OS on any other devices. You should get the white one with a snow leopard photo. Those are called "Retail Discs" and can be used to install on any device that supports the OS (if your machine has Leopard installed and running it can certainly handle Snow Leopard just as well). If possible, try and return the discs you got right now. They are no good.

Keep in mind though that support for Snow Leopard has been dead for some time now. Things like Firefox or flash may work on SL for now but it is only a matter of time before third party developers cease to support that OS too. The only reason to upgrade to SL is to use the built-in Store app to upgrade to one of the newer versions. They are free and install on hardware that date back to 2008.

Which is exactly what I did.

Hey Drawgoon or Solium, if you have this Disc with the Snow Leopard on it, would you be up for a trade? I can send you one of my 3 CD's I have up on the Trading Board in Trade.

1. PREMINGER AT FOX 2 CD SET
2. THE BUCCANEER KRITZERLAND
3. BRASS TARGET Varese

I'm so tight on money right now and can't afford to put any more out to ebay. What a dope I was for getting the wrong one on ebay.

Let me know if you guys are interested.

Here's a link to the CD's I have for Trade on Trading Post. Are you guys in the USA? Thanks so much!

I fell behind on updates too. We have a 2007 Mac mini. The problem I ran into was we didn't have enough RAM, so I had to install new cards, which I've never done before.

I've never opened up a computer to do that before, so it was a scary proposition. Managed to pulled it off...mostly. wink

Unfortunately, I don't have one. But a quick search revealed that Apple still has it in stock for just 19.99. Seems like a better deal than parting with those gems.

That's a good point, Greg, and it is something to look at if installation fails with a retail disc.

It used to straightforward to do home mods and repairs of Apple hardware to some extent back in the days of Jobs. Not quite like it anymore these days.

Thanks Drawgoon. I put out 19.95 on ebay with free shipping but wound up getting the wrong one. Had a feeling I should have went for the one with the Leopard on it. Anyway, I'm financially down right now and thus offering those CD's. I'll eventually be able to do it. Asking all my friends and anyone who has a mac if they they have the Snow Leopard. Someone should. Thanks for all the ideas and help!

Yes, that's it solium! I've been told this should work for me. Thanks for taking time and all.

I have no money to offer you, but any of those CD's I mentioned I will gladly send your way and I can return the Disc to you once I've installed.

No money or music needed. Happy to help. I understand tight budgets! I added my email address to my profile. Send me an email where you would like it to go.

I also checked, and it's legal to send you the discs and package. By sending you the whole thing (box, CD, paperwork, etc.) I am essentially transferring the "license" over to you. Since I only installed Snow Leopard, so I could upgrade to Mavericks, I am not using the software and I don't need the discs anymore.

Edit: Received your email Zoob. Going out today! (removed my email from my profile)
