Having watched John Burlingame's fantastic Top 10 Lalo Schifrin spy scores video (if you haven't seen it, watch it ASAP), I now have a renewed interest in the composer's works. A few of the scores mentioned in the video have since gone out of print and a few have never seen the light of day!

So, I'm wondering who now owns the rights to Sol Madrid and The Venetian Affair (both are WB/MGM films), as they were both part of FSM's now OOP Schifrin box set? I would like a re-release of these :-).

It also occurred to me, that NONE of the Matt Helm scores have been released (a box set perhaps?)

Blue Light sounds like it also deserves some kind of release, as it was a precursor to Mission: Impossible

Moving away from Schifrin's Top 10 Spy Scores, a lot of his other scores to my knowledge have also never been released. Including After The Sunset, Black Moon Rising (tell me if I'm wrong), St. Ives and The Sing II (Oscar-nominated score).

Thoughts? Comments?

Warner should own the rights. It seems doubtful that a label would pick those up again, but you never know.

Those probably have lost master tapes as they are Columbia films. Perhaps the LPs have a decent chance?

Other Schifrin scores worth releasing for the first time include Charley Varrick, The Beguiled, Return from Witch Mountain, Airport '79, The Mask of Sheba, The Manitou, Eye of the Cat, When Time Ran Out..., Amityville II, Dark Intruder and A Stranger Is Watching. There are a number of good TV series scores as well.

I won't go in to the "re-released" bit, but of the totally unreleased titles, there are about three which I think would make great CDs.

THE BEGUILED (haunting)

CHARLEY VARRICK (varied)

THE MANITOU (go to YouTube now and tell me that those Main Titles are rubbish!)

Don't forget DAY OF THE ANIMALS. There was an isolated score on the blu-ray, so I was hoping a CD would be eventually released. No such luck!

Escape to Athena would be nice. I imagine this would be like a lot of scores from various other ITC films, in that perhaps the original tapes are lost or destroyed. But I'd hope the tapes for the Japanese vinyl album might at least still be in the vaults somewhere...

It is amazing that the score to the greatest movie ever made has never been available. One of these days...

Blindfold is a wonderful score. The great chase cue from Schifrin's Mission: Impossible pilot originates from this score.

Beside those I would add his first collaboration with Brett Ratner and no I am not talking about Rush Hour but rather the movie Money Talks starring Charlie Sheen.

Absolutely agree on Schifrin's BLACK MOON RISING score. A lost 80s synthy classic that I would buy remastered with extra tracks.
