OK, I'm canvassing opinions here. I don't like digipacks as most of them are damaged, in my humble opinion I'd say well over 50% of them.

I recently ordered Perseverance's new Safan CD, Rough Magic, from Amazon UK. It was a digipack. Colour me disappointed. When it arrived, it was flatpacked, and the spine, the part that would be on display, was crushed down the middle. Totally unacceptable. I sent it back without even taking off the shrinkwrap.

It has just arrived again. This time, the spine is fine, but there is a crease right down the front of the cardboard cover. The photo doesn't do it justice, it goes right to the bottom. Anyway, I don't want to be a dick, I realise this will impact on a company's trade, and also - quite frankly - I realise CD #3 might be damaged as well.

So what do people think? Would you just keep it?

I would keep it but I realize this is totally subjective; had it been an open tear or something had been torn I'd have sent it back again. Did you request that they'd package it better the second time? In the rare occasion I send something back because of damage (most likely caused by bad packaging that protects insufficiently), I ask when they send a replacement to make sure it's packaged better or else you're just playing the lottery.

The damage on the photo above (I cant get it to load directly on the page) is definitely from the point of manufacture. The damage on the first disc could either be from manufacture or posting.

I'm not totally OCD, but I like to have a decent collection. At the same time, you can only send something back so many times before the company (Amazon, who I'm not especially bothered about in this instance, and Perseverance) have probably lost money on your purchase as opposed to making some. And then nobody wins.

Send it back.

They should finally learn to produced CDs packed properly!
Or contact Perseverance directly about this issue and let them handle it since in this case it´s not defect caused by inproper packaging while shipping but badly made shitty packaging format.

In all honesty, it's a pain but how much of an issue is it really? You've got the music, and the chances are you'll look at the pack once in a blue moon. A shrug of the shoulders, old horse.

I'm sure the time and buggeration can be better spent elsewhere.

Agreed, send it back.

The packaging of CDs should be able to last as long as the CDs that it's supposed to be protecting.

I sent it back. Third copy arrived with another crushed spine. Amazon have now just refunded me, despite the fact I downloaded it already from them and requested another copy.

*Technically I've just requested to return #2 and #3 - they are still in the house. So I'm back to debating whether just to keep the one with the damaged cover. I want the disc in my collection, and feel bad I've returned a disc that has to be amongst the hardest sell of any CD a film speciality label has released. Non melodic cave music, not attached to a film, from a composer who hasnt done a score in over a decade.

keep one of the discs, then return the empty case and tell them you received it that way. wink
