SUPERHEROES---Steven Spielberg commented on the future of superhero movies, "We were around when the Western died and there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western. It doesn't mean there won't be another occasion where the Western comes back and the superhero movie someday returns.
Right now the superhero movie is alive and thriving... I'm only saying that these cycles have a finite time in popular culture. There will come a day when the mythological stories are supplanted by some other genre that possibly some young filmmaker is just thinking about discovering for all of us."
Also, Joaquin Phoenix commented on why he hasn't starred in a superhero movie, including turning down the role in DOCTOR STRANGE, "When I was younger I was probably a bit of a snob about [taking on blockbuster roles]. But they've gotten better. I've flirted with several of those films, having meetings and getting close, but ultimately it never felt like they'd really be fulfilling.
There were too many requirements that went against my instincts for character. I've been spoiled. I've never had to make those compromises. I've not met a director yet with one of those films where we go through the script, they say: 'You know what, [frick] this set-piece, let's focus on the character!' I understand, but it's best I don't do it."

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---Michael Shannon explained his earlier comment that General Zod has flippers in the sequel, "Somebody was asking me about this in New York and I made up some ridiculous bulls**t answer about how my character Zod has flippers, and this went viral on the Internet or something and people have been asking me about that. That is so obviously a complete bulls**t story, right? But people took it seriously."

Those were my thoughts as well. Someone has some 'splainin' to do. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

  • ALL THE WAY---HBO released a photo of Bryan Cranston as President Lyndon Baines Johnson in the tv movie about Johnson's first year as president after John F. Kennedy's assassination.

That prosthetic getup is about as inversely inspired as this title is uninspired. Just throw the Emmy at the makeup team already. Won and done.

NBC's previous Dracula was already a bust from the first episode, but I guess they'll wring that rag dry yet. Yay public domain!
