The listing of FSM albums can be sorted by the header of a column. http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/list.cfm?sortby=o&sortdir=2 When I sorted the titles by availability, I counted around 186 which have a green "buy" button. [the sold ones are designated by the red OOP button]. Since FSM produced 250 albums, then 186/250 = approximately 75%. Is this true, or are there further titles which need to be updated as sold out?

I worked very hard to make sure everything was pressed in sufficient quantities to be around for the people who want them. I didn't want our CDs selling for $200 on eBay (although, unfortunately, they do in some cases). This was an expensive proposition and SAE stepped up to help keep the titles repressed. In general we have 100-300 copies of everything in stock, which are slowly selling out. In some cases, our licenses are still active and we've repressed the titles...In a few cases we drastically overpressed in the first place (Prophecy comes to mind). See the articles I did a couple of years ago where I went through the entire catalog and told the story behind each album. Lukas

The interesting question is why have certain titles disappeared so much faster than others. Yes, I agree. This question is part of why I created this thread.

What is with the mentality that releases have to instantly sell out? Isn't there something to be said for maintaining a catalog? But this is not about instant sell outs, Onya. FSM produced CDs for about 15 years (from around '98 through '12); the remaining stock continues to be their catalog, so-to-speak. I think it's interesting to read which titles are "OOP" and compare them with your own personal favorites which remain in stock. For example, to my mind albums such as Friedhofer's ABOVE AND BEYOND and Gary McFarland's EYE OF THE DEVIL are so good they should be sold out.

There were different studio relationships, different logistical considerations with the print parts, different contracts...I made different decisions as time went on as far as how many to manufacture...it really depends. There are 40 copies left of Elmer Bernstein's FMC box set—that is one I guarantee will NEVER be repressed! Lukas

Lukas Your input is appreciated, LK. I remember your prior threads on this subject, too. Nonetheless, different situations for each album notwithstanding, one might continue to wonder (for example) why THE WRONG MAN - which is an original Herrmann soundtrack from a Hitchcock film - hasn't sold out yet? Will the concert works by Maurice Jarre ever sell-out?

I drastically overpressed The Wrong Man...so it's still around. What can I say? I hope they find good homes. Lukas
