Hi folks!

In light of the upcoming 2-LP release of LEGEND (which contains the same sequencing as the Silva Screen expanded edition from 1992), I decided to check out the CDs that are out there. I have the old Silva CD but I never upgraded to the 2002 release from them. I have been thinking about it due to the improved cover art and maybe improved sound quality. To my shock, I see that Amazon.com has this disc for escalated prices and no longer available from the manufacturer. It's not available at S.A.E. or Intrada either. Is this disc OUT OF PRINT?? It's hard to believe that this may be the case. Could we expect a new CD soon?

I think it's also Silva Screen, in October.

There is a thread on here about that too. But I wanted to make a thread about the CD and it's flagging availability.

I would simply wait for a new release of the score (possibly expanded). It's a Goldsmith score so chances that it will at least get a reissue in the near future are high. You already own the existing program so it's not like you are missing out.

But it's sad to see it going OOP. And it would be nice to get it out there in expanded format. Hall of Mirrors, Darkness Chant, Pan Fight, etc. I think the elements are lost to time, similar to Secret of Nimh. But the existing CD shouldn't go out of print. Unless the company is going to stick to the download option only...

There are still the film stems with Mia Sara's vocals, which are far superior to what's on the album in my opinion.

Do any of you ever take the time to looks at ITUNES (and other digital outlets)

The Jerry Goldsmith LEGEND score has been and still is in print:

Sorry folks, if you can get it on ITUNES,etc it's not out of print.

The CD might be, but folks that doesn't mean the release is out of print.

I didn't check Itunes as I don't care about digital releases but for once you make a point, if it's still in print there Silva will probably not reissue it on CD anytime soon. Also the 1992 CD still seems readily available at very cheap prizes and I haven't seen discussed in this thread if the sound quality on the later release is that much improved to even consider getting the 2002 version, especially at higher secondary market prices?

Doug *definitely* confirmed Rambo: First Blood Part II (with a strong hint that a complete remastered version is coming from Intrada). I think Supergirl may have been hinted at as well, possibly by Roger, but I'm not sure. I don't recall any claims being made about Legend on the Intrada board, Indy.

More's the pity! Oh well, I'm in for a complete new orchestral recording by Tadlow! It'd take two discs and they could fill out the second disc with a half-hour suite from The Secret of NIMH including the 9 minutes otherwise lost...I know I'm probably dreaming.

What 2002 release? Not listed soundtrackcollector
Nor is there an overpriced version on Amazon?

Though the iTunes release is dated 2002?

Legend is one of those Goldsmith scores that holds fascination for me. The music straddles the line between tonality and impressionism. I first heard Legend when I found a copy through S.T.A.R. (anyone remember them?). I was blown away by the dancing synthesizer tones, the lush choir, the beautiful orchestral performances. The booklet that came with the Silva CD was extremely generous for back in the early 90s, and very informative. That album was extremely well put together in sound and presentation. Part of me just wants to relive that experience, and knowing that there was more music laid down for the film, makes me wish that a brand new remastered disc with more material could make it back onto CD. I really don't think that will ever happen at this point -- I believe it already would have by now -- but a new recording would seem possible. David Newman conducted a suite about three years ago that included "Hall of Columns." Have Goldsmith's written parts survived?

I understand that a soundtrack isn't really "out of print" if it's still available through iTunes. But I abhor downloads. I find more value in a physical album. Downloads just don't seem reliable and quality wise they don't hold up for me... But I get the business model for the companies being more viable.

My apology. This happens to me on a small screen on mobile devices and will happen again. Though I searched Amazon and can't find overpriced copies.

The remastered 2002 version on iTunes. Of course minus the booklet.

Happy New Year Everybody!

I couldn't help but notice Leigh Phillips had posted audio/video of Goldsmith's Legend, including "The Unicorns" and the "Dress Waltz." Dare I say, could this be a new re-recording on the way? That would be wonderful.
