Having heard James Horner's comments about working with Malick on The New World I don't envy Morricone.

Much as I love James Horner (and I doubt that many love his music more than I do), he did say some rather odd things over the years in interviews and the Terrence Malick comments were very odd indeed. It is scarcely conceivable that a man of his apparent intelligence signed on to score The New World and truly expected Malick to make a love story to rival Titanic - he must have known what he was getting himself into, unless he hadn't seen any of his previous films, which again is scarcely conceivable. There's nothing to suggest Morricone wasn't entirely happy with his experience on Days of Heaven. I'm certainly entirely happy with the resulting film and score, both of which are exquisitely beautiful (as are most of Malick's films, though To The Wonder was too much even for me). Having said that... I'd much rather some new Morricone music for this than just tracking in old stuff. Record a few themes and variations, allow Malick to place them as he wishes... Morricone's done that more times than most of us have had hot dinners, and I'd have thought Malick would be happy with that arrangement too.

....I loves the music in NEW WORLD and thought the use of Wagner and Mozart and others worked much better in the film than what Horner did (from what I could piece together). I for one really enjoy the complete Horner score for THE NEW WORLD and disagree that the use of the classical pieces worked better than what Horner's original score would have done for the film. I thought Horner's score (as heard on the cd) was pretty dull. SO, I have to go with the classical pieces. Terrific film (for the most past) brm

. Thor said: .....(for the record, I don't like everything Malick has done -- I didn't much care for TO THE WONDER, for example). There is hope for you yet, Thor! ahahahahahahahahha!!!!!!!!! brm

There aren't many photos of Terrence Malick he seems a very "reclusive" character ? To put it mildly. ... He isn't ever even present in any way in behind the scenes footage, meaning that the documentaries on the video releases of his films invariably feature onset footage of and lengthy interviews with producers, DPs, production designers, etc. . Am I the only one who desperately tried to spot him in the extensive NEW WORLD behind -the scenes footage?
