George Lucas got a Best Screenplay nomination for the '77 original, but the best writing in any SW film has always been that of John Williams. His scores are basically all I'm really looking forward to. If anything else about the next movies impresses me, I too will be pleasantly surprised.

It would not be that hard for it to be better than the last 3 movies- the so called "prequels". And it would not be hard to be better than Return of the Jedi either. Better than Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back, that would be a stretch I think.

I certainly wouldn't knock down the new film before I'll get the chance to see it. The trailer(s) looked good, and JJ Abrams is a smart director. Remember what even the people who were involved in the original one thought about it at the time (AFAIR Kenny Baker said in a making-of that "we all thought it was rubbish"). I think the new one(s) can never have the same SIGNIFICANCE as the original, for they cannot create something entirely new - and they'll be hard pressed to reach the level of Empire Strikes Back, which I think is just perfect, everything clicks.

And if the Academy gave Tarantino Oscars, it *must* be good writing!

After all, we all know the Academy never gets it wrong.

QUENTIN TARANTINO:
Thanks. This has been a very strange year. I can definitely say that. Uhmmmm, you know what? I was trying to think. I think this is probably the only award I'm going to win here tonight so I was trying to think maybe I should just say a whole lot of stuff right here, right now, just get it all out of my system. Then I thought about all year long everything building up and everything, just blow it all, just tonight, just, just say everything! But I'm not. Thanks.

ROGER AVARY:
I'd want to thank my beautiful wife Gretchen who I love more than anything in the world. And I really have to take a pee right now, so I'm going to go. Thank you.

I bet it'll be the best for at least some of the young 'uns for whom it will be the first.

I would argue that you are entirely correct. Listening to Revenge of the Sith the other day, I was reminded how the scores in all the Star Wars lend a credibility, weight and integrity to every picture that they would not otherwise have. I think you cannot overestimate how much Williams contributed to the success of the movies, artistically and commercially.

Henry, we both know it wont beat Mad Max Fury Road. wink

Hi buddy!smileWhile I want the new STAR WARS to be good, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is very important to me and my favorite film which I absolutely LOVE! So, to be honest, I hope STAR WARS doesn't beat FURY ROAD. I'm not talking box office, STAR WARS will beat just about everything at the box office, I'm talking about just being a great film. And some Oscars would be nice too. I now hopefully have a movie to root for at the next Oscars. I think it deserves a best picture and director nomination, it probably won't get them, but deserves them. And also cinematography, editing, visual effects, sound, sound effects editing, makeup, set/production design. I know I'm getting carried away, but I'm just saying I think it deserves those.
