Has anyone noticed the similarity between the motifs?

Goldsmith:

1-1#- 2- 1-1#-2#

Kenton:

1-1#-2-1-2-2#

There’s some stuff in 1950s version of THE DESPERATE HOURS that seems to prefigure the LOGAN’S RUN progression from what I recall.

SIGNS seems to do a modern take on weaving a three-note motif throughout.

This is a very simple progression, quite a natural chromatic motif to develop on a keyboard.

"Simple" is not necessarily obvious. I think it is interesting that both thought to use a set three ascending half steps, and then repeating this with a subtle stretch.

True, I just wanted to point out that similarity doesn't necessarily mean there is a connection, or one influenced the other. Not that you said that, but things often get interpreted that way round these parts.

More important it got me to listen both to that Kenton number I didn't know, and to listen to Logan's Run all the way through for the first time in a long time, so thanks for making the connection.

I also wasn't familiar with the Kenton...

Terrific stuff, that is!

I believe "Monotony" is a Pete Rugolo arrangement.

I am sorry to say that until over a year ago, I'd never heard of Pete Rugolo! I began watching The Fugitive, on a bit before my time, and was amazed by his title music and many of the other pieces he composed for the series. That Silva CD is quite a treasure. A composer and musician whose work I really need to look into more.
