Always wondered if FOX paid Roddy for his appearance in the Prologue of BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES which was actually footage from the end of the first movie. He did not appear as Cornelius in rest of the movie. That was David Watson.

So does anyone know if he was compensated?

Maybe about as much as Superb Voice Over Actor Paul Frees was for his 20 second BENEATH Final V.O.:

"In one of the countless billions of galaxies in the universe, lies a medium-sized star, and one of its satellites, a green and insignificant planet, is now dead."

You can be sure he was.

Actor's union stipulations. Repeat fees for ad re-showings after 1 year, unless it's a buy-out. Whyever not?

You can't sneeze in Hollywood without somebody having to pay or getting paid for it.

What about a still image only like Gary Lockwood in the 2010 prologue?

I read that actor Michael Biehn successfully sued the makers of Alien 3 for using his still-image likeness in that film.

Crispin Glover did likewise for Back to the Future Part 2.

McDowall got paid, but you know who didn't -- and was pissed?

Franklin J. Schaffner, the director of the original. They used three to four minutes of his film at the beginning, and he never got a dime.

Here's one you can file under bizarre:

Charlton Heston did NOT get paid for the re-use of the footage (probably lumped into the $50k that was donated to a private military school); however, he did get a small check for the dialog that wound up on the equally bizarre BENEATH LP--as did McDowall.

For those who like to say that Roddy McDowall wasn't in BENEATH, well, that's not exactly true!

I think the actors union rules were changed after THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1973) and THE FOUR MUSKETEERS (1974), in which the producers tried to save money by filming two movies together as if they were one, and then not paying the actors for the second film. The actors were not happy about it.

Or maybe that was SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN II. Anybody know? Either way, it is not at all obvious to me that Roddy would get paid for BENEATH back in 1970. I'll bet he got nothing.

I read that actor Michael Biehn successfully sued the makers of Alien 3 for using his still-image likeness in that film.

In fact, I believe Biehn got more money for the use of his likeness in Alien 3 than he received for his performance in Aliens.

I always think it is a bit funny when you hear actors etc bleating on about residuals.

My dad was an aircraft designer by profession. Like actors, he got paid to do his job (albeit not anywhere near the stellar salaries they get of course). However, he didn't get paid every time someone flew on an aircraft he had worked on and rightly so.

I've never understood why any artiste should be remunerated again and again for their contribution to a movie.

Because every time the movie is re-shown, the studios are making profit off the work a second, third, fourth, etc., time around. And they are making that profit off the backs of the actors who were in the film.
