Got to agree about the mixing bowls - that really didn't work in the climactic section of The Search. Don't want to fault a brilliant project and all the effort and dedication that went into it but some tweaks needed. Some brilliant performances especially The Hunt and No Escape. However, the main title didn't seem to flow as well as it should and their approximation of a recurring descending, sighing sound (not sure what was used to create it originally, but its heard prominently behind the piano at the beginning of The Forbidden Zone cue) unfortunately was too loud and sounded like something from The Clangers (UK kids TV reference). Still a fantastic performance that I'm sure will gather strength in subsequent performances.

Yes. That's the thing with live performances of film music, especially Goldsmith - the originals were often written with mixing and microphone techiniques in mind, rather than the concert hall. Thus in the original, those mixing bowls would be close mic'd, equalised and with added reverb etc to achieve the effect Goldsmith wanted. Same with other instrument groups. Recreating that for the concert hall isn't practical, so the audience, especially the Goldsmith admirers, have to re-adjust for the new acoustical presentation. It can be a shock though!

i think they did fine, all considered. I'd go again next week if it were on!

I'm still envious of those who saw this.

If only San Francisco would get over its self-onanistic relationship with VERTIGO and perform something ELSE live in concert....
