I had some unused gift certificates from Amazon and Dusty Groove, the greatest record store on the planet, and I blew the entire wad on Italian soundtracks from the 1960s and 1970s.

I have very broad taste in music, but it always comes down to Italy for me.

I have never been to Italy, and it is high on my list of destinations, but I worry that I would be disappointed because I would expect everyone to look like characters in a giallo or polizia film.

It is almost wine o'clock and I am currently blasting "Exorcist II: The Heretic."

If I ever get another cat, I am going to name him Franco Nero.

Have a nice Sunday!

You gotta go.
Ive been a regular. Probably 30 times.
Dont go there expecting italian film scores or italian western dvds.
They have a hard on for american hollywood stuff.
You are more likely to find comic superhero posters, vampire diaries, all the blockbuster stuff before you find anything remotely leone or ennio.

But go for the wine and the pasta ragu.

You're certainly not alone. Since I got my first Italian soundtracks a few years ago it's been a non-stop orgasmic music experience ever since. You do it once, you get addicted for life. They're like sex. You keep craving for more. Wanted to get some Intrada CD's... nah. Next time. Just yesterday I purchased two of those Morricone GDM double CD's. Today I had to get Morricone's I CRUDELI. I had to. I think I had my Italian fix for now. Can't wait to get and blast these.

Enjoy your wine!

I've been to Rome, Naples and Milan.
Rome was in May 1977...a few days after my 12th Birthday. My older brother had got us tickets
to a certain European Cup Final. Oh what a night! smile
The other two trips were 3 or 4 nights breaks. Naples was a shithole frown
I do like me some Ennio, but if push came to shove, it's Pino D all the way for me.

You're ahead of us ... we're just back from our nth visit ... incl. a 4th visit to Roma (it's much quieter in July/August (smile).

If you get the chance, pass on the ragu and go for the spaghetti alle vongole. But agree on the vino!

We were invited to a concert so went and enjoyed ... Brahms' sonatas, etc. at Infermeria, Fossanova.

But I did talk, briefly, with my wife's Italian cousins about Maestro Morricone as they know I love his music!

Highly recommended ... though do beware the driving ... their disregard for anything resembling order on the roads takes some getting used to!

I spent a day in Ventimiglia in 1981 - an excursion during a holiday in the S of F. So far this is the only time I've stood on Italian soil.

We're pondering on a two centre Rome/Amalfi Coast trip for next year.

Chris, would highly recomend the Amalfi/Rome trip, but don't expect to find many soundtracks! Make sure you visit Pompei. And yes it quite often comes down to Italy for me, whether Morricone, Nicolai, Lavagnino, Piccioni, Umiliani, Rustichelli, De Masi, Nascimbene, Cipriani, Donaggio etc etc......Dave

Hi Tall Guy,
My wife and I have been to Rome twice, it's a great place to visit, when you're there pay a visit to the Cinecitta Theme Park, open April to October.

http://www.cinecittaworld.it/en/

Just get on the metro and travel to Cinecitta, the station is just outside the studio.
We loved Rome, the only downside was the lack of cd shops, we found one on Termini Station (Recordi) and another (Recordi) in Rome itself but I can't remember where, it's an age thing.

It's a fabulous place to visit, you should see the Colosseum, amazing place, how the hell did they ever build such a thing.

And go to the forum studios!!
And check out ennios house.

Maybe have some tuscan red in a trattoria nearby first.
Then some more tuscan red afterwards.
Carafes are good value. By glass 3 it will be the best you ever tasted!!

Within Europe, Rome has definitely been my favorite city to travel to and as far as soundtracks go, Italian soundtracks have consumed an entire shelve in my collection. I enjoy the movies a lot as well, especially those where the cities' backdrops and locations (many of them listed by Loren) play as big a character.

Oh Venice. I've been there too. Very nice city. Home of Pino Donaggio.
I was desperate to buy a soundtrack by him I didn' t have in his home city, but the one CD
shop I found, down some dark back street, didn't have anything I didn't already have.

Thanks, Dave. I never expect to find soundtracks anywhere nowadays that doesn't have a screen and limited battery life.

Italy does not disappoint. You'll forget your preconceptions when you see the gorgeous buildings, the amazing countryside, and the trains that are always on time. Even the policemen were beautifully turned out.

(Just don't go there expecting to get away from cigarette smoke ANYWHERE.)

At home alone on a chilly Sunday, with plenty of wine and firewood. Spinning Morricone all day long!

Sounds perfect (apart from the alone bit) and I'd merely query under the circumstances why you need to worry about a Williams journey. There's more than enough Morricone for several lifetimes.

Chilly Sunday, wine, firewood... sounds like a perfect situation to be spinning HOME ALONE and HOME ALONE 2. Had that crossed your tiny mind, Onya?

Yes, Morricone, Ellington, and Sun Ra can fill up this lifetime quite nicely! wink

Sorry, I meant STEPMOM. That's my fave for a chilly Sunday with firewood and wine. Onya? You like?
