If it were true, you'd expect an increase in liver problems worldwide, that's where the suggestion of the main destination is.

I saw an excellent documentary series by the BBC recently on why we gained so much weight in the last decennia ("The Men Who Made Us Fat") focusing on the rise of fast food companies, bigger portions, ... and the whole diet industry that emerged to get us to lose weight ("The Men Who Made Us Thin") focusing on every diet and exercise regime. It was very informative and on the subject of diets it showed that nearly all participants who undergo a short to even longterm diet in the long run put the weight back on. I think it was like 2 % who could actually keep the weight down, very negligible and proving that diets don't work.

For me personally, if I want to maintain the same weight, I exercise regularly and balance my food between healthy and fat. If I want to lose weight, I exercise heavily and eat smaller portions of high calorie foods. It's more a state of mind with a clearly defined goal as opposed to one 'diet' or exercise regime.

I will say that in this day and age of "zero calories" soda, I think anyone still drinking the sugar loaded alternative is a fool and don't give me the chemicals crap as that is present in both versions, soda will never be healthy but if I want to drink it, I'll just have the 'zero' version.

Well I don't drink soda very often but when on very small occasion I do it is NOT the zero version. The sugar free versions don't taste very good. Though I typically prefer the cane sugar varieties to the corn syrup stuff. The problem with zero versions is it gives people the illusion that they can continue to drink that stuff without problems when they should be seriously cutting back on it, as they would if they had a good alternative.

And as for the microwave stuff above, that sounds like the stuff my grandma always shares, hack doctors trying to convince people that everyday household items are dangerous. I eat microwaved vegetables all the time. Those lovely ready bags that steam in the bag are fantastic and make cooking much easier than dealing with some slow steamer that takes quite a long time to boil additional water to cook your food.

Actually that BBC documentary stated that "light" and "zero" products make people not only consume the same amount they would otherwise, but even more because it is now less or non fattening (!).

I mainly drink water (and often times added lemon juice) and only drink soda when I'm out or in the weekends. And for me the zero taste is fine for Coca-Cola, Schweppes, any of the sodas I'll still drink. If you don't like the taste and get the original, that's fine, just don't complain sodas are fattening is all I'm saying.

MD Michael Klaper about Olive Oil and Restaurant:

Still about the topic of restaurant that is a source a fat, to give you an example,
an obese film director named Michael Moore used to assert that his weight gain
was due to going to restaurant during decades.

It's not the fat, it's the sugar, & low fat versions of anything should be avoided, they load them with salt & sugar to make them taste good. The amount of sugar in these well known burgers is shocking, nothing wrong with a good burger, but make it yourself. When you can, cook your own stuff & don't eat too much of it.

I sort of try to eat healthy these days (chicken & baked veg tonight), but I do love chocolate & wine (& Jack Daniels), & after all, Keith Richards is still alive!

This rich man is the exception to the rule. A lot of American people suffer because of bad food and the lack of decent health. They live like slaves to the industrialists and end up with morbid obesity, diabetes, cholesterol, heart attack, cerebrovascular accident, parkinson, alzheimer, cancer.
