I am really disappointed in PBS for splicing scenes from the films during the performances. They did not do this with the John Williams concert a few months ago. I want to see the orchestra not random sound-less scenes from the movie.
As far as the music goes though, it's excellent. I understand the arrangements were done specifically ofr concert. Batman has a lot more choir than I remember in the score.
Pee Wee is a longer suite than I've heard live in the past. Good stuff.

If they didn't splice in the scenes from the films, you'd lose part of the impact of the concert, which was clips from the films and Tim Burton artwork being projected on a screen behind the orchestra.

Exactly. Your complaint is with the producers of the concert, not with PBS.
Great program! I was looking forward to hearing Planet of the Apes but I'm guessing it was cut for time reasons. Maybe it'll be there if the concert is released on bluray/dvd.

A Blu Ray DVD would be fantastic and a best selling set if they did.
Seems like a fantastic show -- everything is a bit more streamlined now than the London premiere I saw two years ago (which was still superb, though). I see you were also treated to a performance of Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" as an added bonus -- now THAT was a treat, I'm sure.

They dropped both the Planet of the Apes and the Dark Shadows suites from the live concert I saw, presumably for time and more stuff from Nightmare Before Christmas.

The performance by Elfman of "Dead Man's Party" was at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend, following their live-to-picture of the entire NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. What aired on PBS was a version of the Burton/Elfman concert that played in various cities last year, with themes and suites from each of their projects.
Was just thinking about this again, and thinking that I'd love to see a CD release of this program - since some of these arrangements are quite unique.
