Edge of Tomorrow doesn't need a sequel. Then again, what movies did?

WELCOME TO SWEDEN---NBC canceled the series.

This is such a shock! It looked awful, NBC stopped advertising for it, and it was airing mid-afternoon on Sundays. Who saw this coming?!

What's more, the film flopped. Much as I enjoyed it, is Hollyweird really in the business in investing in stuff that doesn't make money?

They were actually planning a sequel to Jumper, so I suppose "yes" is the answer.

No-one thought Independence Day needed a sequel until now.

I only watched Edge Of Tomorrow for the first time on Tuesday evening, and rather enjoyed it. I suppose in a way, it has a similar concept to Pacific Rim, with a closed ending where you think everything is wrapped up. But if a Pacific Rim sequel is going to explore the world of the monsters, that's an avenue that maybe the viewer wouldn't have thought of when watching the first film. So perhaps they'll come up with a similar reason for an Edge Of Tomorrow sequel.

I actually thought it was pretty funny - moreso this season than in season 1. Since all of the episodes are already produced/aired in Sweden, hopefully NBC will burn off the ones that are left, or at least drop them on Hulu.

I surprisingly enjoyed EOT. But it's a concept that ran it's course. Once is enough. Don't need another one.

It flopped? Damn, I really rather enjoyed it and thought it was well done. Not sure it needs a sequel, but I'd be curious to hear what the idea is.

Glad MI:6 is on the cards already.

Edge Of Tomorrow worked primarily because of the black humor. Gritty enough to be funny but not to gritty to be gross or sickening. You really can't duplicate that aspect twice. It was paramount to the story that Tom Cruise's character kept committing suicide on purpose. Not to mention his lady friend helping out in that respect!

For me, what made the film work more than the black humor was the way that Cruise's character wasn't instantly a savior for the human race because of his unusual circumstances. He has to adapt to the situation and avoid admitting what's happening head on, but figure out how he can avert our extinction.

Then there were the phases he went through, as anyone in that position would, much like Ramis addressed in Groundhog Day. First, he tries to save everyone, but it gets him killed. Next, he goes the opposite route because saving everyone is too painful and lets everyone die, but that still doesn't work. Then there's the wonderful reveal in which Rita learns that they have the ability to get outside the combat area, but he has no idea how to complete his objective without getting her killed.

I also really enjoyed the way that he was such a self absorbed leech at the beginning of the movie and didn't realize what strides he'd made near the end of his journey until Rita came out and told him. It's that kind of character material that I love, and that really makes this film work.

Damn, I need to buy this movie.
