I updated my Shockwave plugin to the Adobe Flashplayer yesterday to allow me to view some videos. In the past I disabled Shockwave because I was always getting the following popup:

"Warning: Unresponsive Plugin
Shockwave Flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the plug now, or you can continue to see if the plugin will complete."

With the new Shockwave, I can now view all videos, but now the same old popups from above have returned and my pc completely froze 5 times in about 2 hours.

So, how can I solve the Shockwave plugin problem so I can view videos without getting the Shockwave popups and stop my pc from constantly freezing using Firefox?

I disabled the Shockwave plugin, but my pc continues to freeze----4 times this morning and 2 times in under 20 minutes.
I've run scans by Avast, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, SuperSpyware, disk cleanup and the freezing continues.

Any suggestions as to what is causing the freezing?
Anyone having problems with Firefox?

I assume you know the security issues with Adobe Flashplayer?
If not look them up as they advise to uninstall it ASAP.
Best luck.

I think I have a similar problem, I updated Adobe last week & now pages seem to freeze or take forever to load (or won't load at all) if there is a video advertisement (but I can watch you tube etc.).

How do I disable the adobe that is causing this (or put things back to the way they were) & will disabling it effect my computer?

Please keep in mind I have no computer knowledge or expertise at all.

Try Googling something like, "shockwave flash keeps crashing", maybe adding other keywords like "firefox" or whatever is appropriate.

Plenty of results come back, and you may just have to start looking through them until you find something that helps you, since there's going to be many permutations of Windows versions, browser being used, etc. that might make it hard for anyone to provide a simple answer. And a bit of computer jiggery pokery might be involved, but the relevant info should provide step-by-step instructions.

I'd love to know how to get rid of Flash on my Android tablet since Ad Blocker stopped working, as adverts are causing me so many performance headaches (e.g. memory leaks, crashes, grinding to a halt until I do a reboot). Got a feeling the only solution is to try an iPad next time...

How old is your tablet? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ad blocker?

AdBlock Plus stopped working with Android 5 (Lollipop). But I never liked using it because it needed to have a port open, and doing that then caused intermittent connectivity problems with YouTube, Play Store etc.

Lollipop is diabolical anyway, full of memory leaks and kept crashing (which I was always experiencing with Flash-heavy pages), so I downgraded to the previous version before Lollipop and that's much better.

I use Chrome, but I don't like whatever built-in component it uses for Flash... If Flash is unstable or buggy these days, I'm pretty much stuck with it unless I start looking at other browsers. Those Flash adverts are like a programs in their own right, so regardless of what Google do with Chrome and Android, they are still using a third-party program which they have no control over, particularly if Adobe aren't supporting it anymore on Android.

I did try using Firefox for a bit, but didn't like it as overall it seemed much slower than Chrome. If all these advertisers were forced to use static images, or animated GIFs, then I wouldn't have a problem, but they love using Flash.

That's why I was thinking of investigating an iPad, purely to see if I have a better experience away from Flash... otherwise I would stick with Android and Chrome as I like them. It would only need Google to drop Flash support as well, then the advertising world would soon change.

Anyway, apologies for hijacking the OP's thread with my little rant.

I've removed all Adobe players and Adobe Reader X and deactivated the Shockwave plugin---but the freezing problem continues.

Any suggestions?

Try System Restore. Revert your OS to before the problem began.

SOLIUM:

Thanks for the info. The system restore worked.

Is there a safe, dependable alternative to watch videos instead of Adobe Flashplayer?

Cool! Glad it worked. To my knowledge most online sites that imbed videos into their websites use Adobe Flash plug-in. If you just want to download and play videos nothing beats VLC Player. (and it's free)

Adobe Flash had some major security issues which were discovered a few weeks ago. Firefox for example automatically turned off the Adobe Flash plug-in for users. There were a few updates and patches but those also had security issues. However after the last update, Firefox went back to allowing the plugin. So first thing I would do is upgrade to the latest version of Flash.

Sorry to hear that. It can be any number of issues. Try this help page-

My pc continues to freeze---within minutes after I turn it on.
I disabled the Shockwave plugin, but the freezing continues.

Maybe it's a coincidence, but the freezing worsened a few days ago after the latest Firefox update.
So, is anyone having problems with the updated Firefox?

Do you have any security software installed? If you do, it might be a good idea to perform a full virus scan of your system to make sure it is not some malware that's hijacking all your system resources.

I recall Google Chrome had native flashplayer plugin included out of the box, which it'd then update automatically as patches were made available. Might want to switch to that browser for the purpose of watching flash based videos.

DRAWGOON:

I ran a Malwarebyte scan which found 12 problems and an Avast virus quick scan which found no problems----but my pc still froze.
I was checking to see what Firefox version I had (Firefox 40) when I got a popup for new Firefox 40.02 to address stability problems and "Fix a startup crash with some combination of hardware and drivers (1160295)"

Hopefully this will fix the problem......I'll run some more tests to find out.

My pc still freezes.

My pc is now plagued by a second popup (in addition to the first "Shockwave-Warning Unresponsive Plugin" mentioned in my original post) that states the following:

"Warning: Unresponsive script---A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."

When I started my pc today, it froze three times in under 20 minutes.

Any suggestions on how to solve the "Unresponsive plugin" and "Unresponsive script" problems?
