THURSDAY, JULY 23

KONG: SKULL ISLAND---Brie Larson (SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD) is in negotiations to play the female lead in the King Kong prequel movie starring Tom Hiddleston. Russell Crowe is a candidate to play one of the roles that Michael Keaton and JK Simmons had before they left due to schedule problems.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY-PART 2---trailer released for the sequel.

SHARKNADO 3---director Anthony C. Ferrante said about George RR Martin's bloody cameo in the Syfy sequel, "We wanted him in the movie, he wanted to be in the movie, so we went to New Mexico, and we shot it for a day."
Ferrante commented on a deleted scene with Martin, "He went outside, shivered, and said, 'Winter's coming.' But we thought about it and decided that we wanted people to watch it and go, 'Wait, is that...Is that George R.R. Martin?' "
He added, "I love the fact that we're going to piss off all the GAME OF THRONES fans. Instead of writing his damned book, he was busy hanging out with us, filming a scene for SHARKNADO 3!"

LOGAN'S RUN---Simon Kinberg (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) will help develop the remake of the 1976 sci fi movie that starred Michael Yorke and Jenny Agutter.

RAMPAGE---Brad Peyton (SAN ANDREAS) is in talks to reunite with Dwayne Johnson for this live-action movie based on the arcade game about a rampaging giant ape, werewolf and lizard.

HARRY POTTER---Chris Columbus said he would like to direct another Harry Potter movie, "I would love to go back and do another one. Not 'Fantastic Beasts' as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters - Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I'm just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There's 18 years there of great Harry Potter stories."
He added, "There has to be a great story in Harry's life at that point. Hopefully [J.K. Rowling] will maybe think about doing that. Even if I wouldn't make a movie, I'd still like to read those stories."

WYNONNA EARP---new Syfy series based on the comic book about Wyatt Earp's granddaughter who is a modern-day gunslinger who battles demon and other supernatural creatures. Melanie Scrofano (ROBOCOP remake) stars.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---director Zack Snyder's son, Eli, will play Robin in a flashback scene involving his death at the hands of The Joker. Speculation is he will play Jason Todd, the second Robin.

LILYHAMMER---Netflix cancelled the series.

STEELHEART---movie underway based on the novel series about people who battle Steelheart, the leader of evil superbeings. Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) is the producer and may direct the movie.

ZIPPER---movie about a rising federal prosecutor whose future is threatened by his addiction to high-priced escorts. Patrick Wilson, Lena Headey and Richard Dreyfuss star.

SLEEPY HOLLOW---Shannyn Sossamon has joined the cast as Pandora.

Wow, I wondered what happened to her...

How long has this thing been in development? Is there enough for a book by Preston Neal Jones yet?

At one time Bryan Singer was attached to this..... thankfully, that never happened.

Now wait a minute.

The Original film while I quite enjoy differs from the original novel in quite a few ways.

If a new version goes back to the source novel, I'm fine with it.

Agreed, It's been an age since I read the novel, but I remember it being really pacey & quite violent in places, unlike the slow moving movie (which I quite like). Yeah, so have another go at it.

Logan's (disco) Run was considered cheesy and dated when it came out. A remake wouldn't be unwarranted. Though the original has a special place in my heart.

It is (as perhaps many SF movies set in the future are) much more about its own era, the seventies, than any post-apocalyptic future time. I think it might also be the highest grossing SF film prior to the release of Star Wars the following year. And it remains for me one of Goldsmith's great achievements.

Here's a clip someone captured with a phone at a "Cabaret" retrospective/event.

Joel Grey looks about ready to climb the wall!

Here you can learn a little about Mr. York's health trouble, and how his public struggle with his ailment is making the future a little brighter for medical science . . .

I tried to watch that video, but the crowd noises totally obscured what was being said, so I quit.

Actually, except for the score, there's a whole LOT of room for improving on the original LOGAN'S RUN, which has one good half (the first), and one bad half.

Thanks for posting about amyloidosis, Sigerson. Truly, I wasn't aware. I am now.

Wasn't Michael York in the Austin Powers spoofs? The amyloidosis affliction must have started after the series was made? There are lots of degenerative diseases that can take time to diagnose - lupus being one of them. What an excellent spokesperson he is. You can view any of his movies as a crash course on how to speak the English language eloquently.

As for Logan's Run, by all means have a go if it means translating it as originally written. Only, somehow work in Jerry's original score. smile

Agreed. The LOGAN'S RUN novel was an allegory for many aspects of society (not just age), rather than a simplistic story of an oppressive government (as in the movie). The movie did have a very "realistic" looking fight between Logan and Francis. They looked like untrained fighters though, the opposite of the DS men described in the book.

Joel Grey hasn't aged in 20 years.

If I recall correctly, in the novel Logan gets surgically altered to look like Jessica's brother or another one of her cohorts before they fall in love. That's just creepy. I'm glad it didn't happen in the film.

It's hard to imagine Logan's Run without Jerry's score. I thought it was so clever that most of the music during scenes inside the dome included synth effects, and he switched to traditional orchestration when Logan and Jessica escaped. The musical transition was jarring and effective.

One of the many reasons Jerry was a master.
