I've always loved this score, ever since I bought the LP back in the 80's. It's a real mish-mash of styles, one of Pino's schizo-scores, but it works great for me. There's warm, tender scoring, lovely themes, church choir/organ cues, crazy kids singing, quirky comedy tracks, synthy Vangelis riffs and POP SONGS (I LOVE Ring The Bells). I always hoped a CD would come out eventually, but just noticed it's available as a download on amazon.. >http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=ntt_srch_drd_B011DYO0V6?ie=UTF8&field-keywords=Orchestra%20diretta%20dal%20M.%20Natale%20Massara&index=digital-music&search-type=ss< and it's on spotify too! I suppose it means many others can now hear it too (I have a LP-CD transfer), but I still hope Music Box or Quartet or the like might someday press some CD's for posterity.

I'll take that as a NO.

If I ever find an affordable copy, I'll let you know.

Me too - I heard it somehow, have it somewhere on a cd or download, but wasn't bowled over enough to re-pursue. For some reason I have a stack of nude, generic Donaggio scores on cdr I've been meaning to replace. Anyway, I'll put it on my radar again! Cheers to 'The Donaggio 3' lol -Sean

Listening to it on Spotify. Holy crap, there is a fuck-ton of Pino Donaggio on Spotify! Just listened to the first track and I'm sold.

Listening to it on Spotify. Not sure what kind of project 'Don Camillo' is, but it can't be a very serious one, judging by the music. Very eclectic. The Don Camillo books are an absolute joy ... little short Robin Hood stories about the rivalry between a Catholic priest and a Communist mayor in Italy. I don't think I've seen this movie.

Don Camillo was actually a series of 5 films. There are amongst my all-time favourite films and have given me plenty of laughs since childhood. The love-hate relationship between Fernandel (Priest Don Camillo) and Gino Cervi (Mayor Peppone) is just wonderful. I have only seen the films in German and to my knowledge they are no English versions which is a complete travesty. With regard to the music, there was a relase from Varese (if I remeber correctly) a few years ago with a compilation of the 5 films. I must dig out that CD again.

I bought the digital version on Amazon. Got quite a few plays today.

Tim, are the song versions of Why (one in a church choir style and the other solo female voice) on the download you bagged? I ask because they are on the LP, but not on spotify.

Answering my own question, it appears the download (18 tracks, 36 mins) is missing Why (cantata) and Why (instrumental) from the LP, which had 20 tracks and ran a tad over 40 minutes. Very strange. I hope Quartet or Music Box can rectify this situation with a expanded or complete CD

Yeah, I was wondering where that was since there's a re-recording/re-interpretation of it on Donaggio's Canzoni per il cinema album, which I love.

I found online a version of the first flick, 'The Little World of Don Camillo' from 1951 that was narrated and English dubbed by Orson Welles. Made at Cinecitta, it must have been in prod alongside 'Quo Vadis?'

This is the DON CAMILLO movie from the Eighties, starring Terence Hill as Don Camillo. Nothing to compare with the older Don Camillo movies. I know; but the discourse above spread further.
