Cool, exciting CD premiere! John Powell scores Harald Zwart action comedy with Frankie Muniz, Hilary Duff and all concerned melding James Bond with Ferris Bueller! Cody Banks works for the CIA, embarks on deadly mission to defeat sinister ERIS. Now if he can only win the girl. Action and hijinks play out to rousing, tuneful music with emphasis on energetic pace. Powell offers great main theme, tips harmonic hat to John Barry of the sixties, then surrounds with dynamic action for full orchestra. Mod-sixties vibe adds to retro feel. Powell manages not inconsiderable feat of balancing his score between both juvenile world of high school kid in CIA tale and rip-roaring action ideas for grown-up, high tech excitement involved. Bring in element of fun and you have John Powell at his coolest, colorful-est, commanding-est, best! Several cues stand out but sizzling action of "Natalie Rescued" certainly deserves spotlight. Snappy main theme for Cody Banks is another highlight but vying for equal attention is serious, rhythmic minor-key military motif for CIA and related activity. All in all, Agent Cody Banks springs into action to a terrific barrage of orchestral razzle dazzle! Entire 79-minute score presented from two-track digital stereo session mixes, courtesy MGM and John Powell. Informative liner notes by Daniel Schweiger plus colorful graphics and flipper cover art designed by Joe Sikoryak add further appeal. Mission accomplished! John Powell composes, Mike Nowak conducts. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!

So glad to pick this up, a fantastically varied and fun score from Powell's glory days. Another footwarmer I can happily retire. As always, the moment a legit release comes out, I gladly buy it. Hope this sells well and convinces labels to release more of these recent scores - his score for PLUTO NASH, for example, is great fun.

Powell clearly has his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, yet it never devolves into anything Mickey Mousey. The action cues at the end are spectacular. It takes me on a fun easy ride. Just sit back and enjoy!

Who'd have thought Intrada would ever release a Madonna-connected soundtrack? (She was one of the executive producers, but thankfully she doesn't appear in the movie or contribute any songs, one of several reasons the movie's better than Die Another Day.)

This is such a great release!!!

There are so many great John Powell scores from his back catalog that I hope get this kind of treatment. Granted, ACB is a premiere release, but this kind of deluxe presentation would really breathe new life to past scores if expanded upon stuff like the Bourne trilogy, Paycheck, The Italian Job, I am Sam, Hancock, etc. Unfortunately all of those except Bourne 3 are Varese titles so I guess the terms grinding halt are in order, but hopefully one day Powell's previous winners will get their deluxe due...

Keep 'em coming, thanks Intrada!

This is a fantastic Powell score and I thank Intrada for dipping their toes in to his output! I hope they tackle The Adventures of Pluto Nash next, as despite the movie's reputation it's amazing music.

very true! I just meant in the days when he was scoring ten movies a year, and I would pick up a new Powell album almost every month it seemed. He only seems to do one family film a year anymore. I think someone here said it was due to family reasons. I'm sorry he isn't able to work as much as he once did, but it says something very great about him that he would put his family before a thriving career at its peak. smile

Favourite tracks:
"Seaplane" and "Break in part 2"

Eight years ago I fell in love with this music and at last it's finally there. I can now I can upgrade from of Youtube downloads to a real CD.

It's actually quite a fun film too.

My friend Askil Holm has got a track called "Seven Days In The Sun" on the 2003 soundtrack album. Powell has two tracks there too.

Sadly I didn't think this one would stay around to long. It's a fun whimsical score which builds up into an exciting climax. Strange how some things of similar caliber last for years and years and others don't.

Edit: I know the sequel is a bit redundant, but I wonder if there's any chance in hell we will see a release considering how fast this went OOP?

forget the movie

It's a solid "for all ages" film adults can enjoy too. I found it quite entertaining. wink
The sequel sucked and was clearly aimed at young kids.
