Thor, I'm sorry I've failed your test.

Rereading the OP, I now understand that this thread has nothing to do with choosing a set of favourite "set-piece" tracks by a given composer. I apologize for my dim-wittedness.

It's a mind-reading exercise!

You're simply testing our ability to identify that one obvious track on a soundtrack CD that meets your arbitrarily concocted criteria (dissonant, by your own admission, with those offered in previous "set-piece" threads) of musical "fullness".

Clearly, my mentalist skills need further honing....

No, no...you understood completely what I was after. There were some, however, that picked cues from different composers. Although if there is one thing I could perhaps specify, it's that the cue in question should be the 'generally-agreed-upon' centerpiece cue of a score. Then again, there will always be a large amount of subjectiviy involved. Not EVERYONE necessarily agrees that, say, "The Trees" from MEDICINE MAN is the setpiece track of that score.

It's often difficult to get parameters across in a forum like this. In your mind, you know exactly what you're after, but it's not always easy to translate that into words.

I'm happy it's all pukka!

May I ask what the purpose of all this is, Thor? Is it for your radio show?

I was trying to do a Rózsa setpiece list, but I found that in many cases they were often bookended in the film (and on the soundtrack releases) by other pieces which, although still forming a compositional "whole", only included the centrepiece as the...eh... centrepiece. So, off the top of my head, in EL CID you'd get "Battle Preparations/ Starvation/ Revolt" totalling 7:38 on the Tadlow recording, but including transitional scenes etc.

It would be so much easier if you hadn't done Goldsmith yourself first. "No Escape" from PLANET OF THE APES should be at the top of the list!

But these things are only problematical for me if I think I should be taking it really seriously and putting time into it. Which is why I asked the purpose.

//Edited a bit later.../// "I see you put in The Hunt from POTA anyway, and that it does have a Celluloid Tunes connection. So, forget me, and........

AKEEEETA!!!/// (mensaje supervisado por satélite espía: apropado - luz verde)

No, it's more because I would like more playlists like the one I created for Goldsmith -- one that favours these setpiece tracks over just the themes or main title sequences (which are on most compilations). I have plenty of ideas myself, but it would be interesting if others share my view of what a setpiece track of a score can be.

That's nice, Washu. Now make a list of 15 setpiece tracks from only ONE composer!
