I don't know Jim, but it seems that it was posted on Thomas Schofield's channel. His other posts (Sesame Street etc) suggest that it's not "our" Thomas Schofield - who I believe passed away years ago? No mention of Les Baxter there either. Or is it YOUR channel Jim, and your other name is Thomas Schofield?
If I weren't a caveman, I'd be able to work out the answer using brain cells.
apparently this was the end theme for 1967-68. The classic Schumann theme was used at the end in 1969. According to some youtube comments (below) it was composed by Lyn Murray, entitled the "1-K-80 March" (the name of Joe Friday's unmarked police car). One says he got his info from a book on the TVshow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgq8_vvDWYA
There was a version of the theme for tympani that was heard in only one episode for the series' second incarnation from its first season.
okay, I see the middle of that youtube clip has the simple drum END credits. Interesting bit of trivia but back to the topic, here's a similar version to the DRAGNET closing theme which might have engendered Jim's post. I was trying to identify what series it was used in. Murray scored a few LIEUTENANT episodes, and this sounded like something used in an end scene before the credits, but didnt match any.
The pilot only used the Schumann. The "mystery" cue might be musically similar to the DRAGNET closing theme, but it doesnt mean it was used in anything related to Dragnet. But it was probably written in that time frame.
