You've got a standard orchestral score for a movie, what enhancements or embellishments do you like most that are added to it for additional effect?

For example:

-- Wailing woman (erm... Middle Eastern vocals? Lol)
-- Native American chanting
-- Tribal sounds
-- Some other specific cultural sound or instrument
-- Choral passages
-- Subtle drumming, war drums, bongos...
-- Percussive rhythms (if that's considered different from drums above)
-- Keyboard flourishes
-- Nature sounds
-- Anything else you can think of...

I realise opinions will vary depending on the score, but maybe there is something that brings a smile to you when you hear it again in a new score.

I really like ethereal/ambient electronics layered under orchestral. Synthetic voices. Horner was great at this with apocalyptio, titanic, and the new world. I wish Steve roach or Erik wollo would do a film score. Or at least provide additional music.

I can tell you one thing I certainly DON'T like is the 'fluttering' sound of Pan Pipes. Hate the bloody things!

How about non-fluttering as in Once Upon A Time In America and Iceman! smile

I always liked Jerry Goldsmith's use of 'whale calls' in Leviathan...

..at least, I think that's what they were.

I suppose it's called a SLAPSTICK(?) used in the main title of Goldsmith's Total Recall.
