Yeah good you have started down the morricone road.
Its a long one but the discoveries are almost limitless.

If you like la casse you should pursue his crime scores, fear on the city, violent city, sicilian clan, le ruffian, corleone, grand slam, what else??
Also that kirk douglas one with the 11minute opening track with echo trumpet - come on someone, help me out, name on tip of my tongue...!

Cheers, thanks Bill. I already know Violent City, Sicilian Clan, Un Uomo Da Rispettare and Corleone. I will listen to Le Ruffain, Grand Slam and is it Fear in the City? I couldnt find it on IMDB.

I guess Peur Sur La Ville aka Il Poliziotto Della Brigata Criminale aka The Night Caller aka Fear Over The City is meant wink it was recently re-issued by Music Box Records.

Regarding other Morricone crime scores not mentioned yet, I can also definitely recommend Milano Odia: La Polizia Non Può Sparare:

For me, 'Le Casse' pales in comparison to Morricone's other scores from the same period. The title theme is great, some tracks are good, but I don't care for the rather bland source music.

Enjoyable, but not a major score by the Maestro.

I have to agree. Only the title track is worth a jot, really. I got the LP back in the day, but never took to it. I think I might have played it right through three times in the last forty-odd years. For me, side two is just a few tracks of musak.

Hi Les, I beg to disagree. Apart from the main theme, "Love Theme" is a very haunting track. Track 5 - The Girl with the Fringe might qualify as elevator music. But it is not by any means unremarkable. It is wonderful to listen to - very very romantic. The 8th track - Marinella was sampled by John Zorn. It is not a favorite of mine. The 9th track To Carlos S - is another remarkable tune and is not by any means filler. The 10th track - To Melachrino is amazing. It is a repetition of Love Theme with words. Sorry, I am not too good at describing the technical side of music like some people here. But try listening to these tracks once again. They are not simply filler. I swear you will not be disappointed.

Okay, I'll give it another go, but the fact that I've only averaged listening to LE CASSE about once every thirteen years over the last four-and-a-bit decades doesn't bode well.

What soundtrack album by Ennio Morricone from this time period would be a great counter part to this soundtrack album if you where in the mood to get two soundtrack albums by Ennio Morricone with one being this one?

I'd maybe try Peur Sur La Ville.

Le casse (1971) was during a prolific period for the Maestro ... in my collection I have 18 other scores with 1971 as the release or composition date ... so, without straying very far, you have a wealth of choice.

Several of the scores fall into his less melodic, experimental mode, such as: 4 mosche di velluto grigio, La corta notte delle bambole di vetro, Il gatto a nove code, Giornata nera per l'ariete, La lucertola con la pelle di donna, Gli occhi freddi della paura and La tarantola dal ventre nero ... there's usually a very melodic theme/cue and a lot of busy jazz-orientated sounds which take some time (i.e. a number of listens) to break-down.

Or there's L'istruttoria è chiusa: dimentichi which misses out on the melodic cue! A sound-scape almost unique in his career.

Or, go for the highly melodic Incontro or Tre donne, the dramatic, almost symphonic Addio fratello crudele, the serious (with heart-wrenching lyrics) Sacco e Vanzetti or stick with the well-known sound of Giù la testa

There are others ... smile
