Y'all might be interested in Bear McCreary's tribute to the passing of James Horner. He also includes a paper he wrote in college analyzing Horner's score to "The Rocketeer".

Thanks for posting this. Bear wrote a concise and on-target summary of Horner's strengths:

"Horner’s music is unpredictable harmonically, rich texturally, and satisfying melodically. He knew what the audience wanted, and when to give it to them. Ultimately, there is no higher praise one can give a film composer."
