I apologize if this has already been shared, but sit back, take a few minutes and enjoy the wisdom and voice of James Horner.

The whole interview is very insightful. Not just a press junket for Avatar.

Recorded in 2010.

Yeah, it was posted in one of the other threads, but it's still a great interview -- probably one of the best with Horner. That and the Daniel Schweiger/On the Score interview from a few years back with all the "controversial" statements. I like my own interview as well, if I can be so blunt (posted elsewhere), but I only had, like, 10 minutes at my disposal.

Please post yours here, as well. I'd love to see it. I hadn't seen that yet. I'll look up Daniel's. He's terrific.

I'm going to pass on Thor's interview. I already have the earlier released interviews.

I'm not sure if Daniel's interview is still available online (he should post it again now!), but my interview -- which is more like a feature program that also includes interviews with concert producer Sandra Tomek and conductor David Newman, in addition to Horner, as well as tracks from the actual Horner concert -- can be heard here:

(sorry for the less-than-stellar sound quality of my voice recording -- I was using a less advanced microphone at the time)

Interesting interview, but the interviewer's voice is grating.

Does anyone have a link to the 'controversial' 2006 Daniel Schweiger/On the Score interview with Horner? The links I've found lead nowhere.

I think he's taken it down due to space issues. If he reads this, I hope he considers putting it up again, especially now after what has happened.

I remember the absolute hatred leveled against James Horner for his statements regarding TROY and THE NEW WORLD, with one particular member here (initials are D.C.) calling James Horner "mentally ill".

If he was "mentally ill" in that interview because of his blunt honesty, then what are the mental states of the vast majority on this very board who have spit such hatred and attacks for years like? Actually, I'm not sure I want to know...

I've actually got just about every possible interview that's been around over the years, and the above-mentioned DP/30 interview is indeed quite insightful, as are many of David Poland's interviews...it's just his camera style that lacks.

Hey Thor! Will you ever release a expanded edition, perhaps even C&C edition?

(Loved the interview, by the way)

This morning I went to the FSM Online print backissue archive and downloaded the issue with the Jeff Bond Horner interview (also including the last installment of the Horner score overview) to my ipad. It made great reading on the train. It might be nice to fashion an index of which issues from the print archive have substantial Horner content like this.

I listened to all of the interviews in the last few days (I'd seen the DP/30 one just a few weeks ago as it happens), and commented on the On The Score interview in its own thread.

Loved the podcast, Thor. Although after everything they said about getting film music taken seriously in Vienna, I'm not sure that introduction to Star Trek was the right way to go about it! Especially as it wasn't even Horner's music at that point. That said, I've heard of Anthony Daniels in full C3PO costume standing on stage with John Williams during a show (but never witnessed it personally on any of the ones I've been lucky enough to see).

Interesting to hear from David Newman too. I wonder if he's unhappy at where he is right now in the scoring world. I'm no expert on his work as a whole, but the guy who composed Hoffa definitely has class and coulda been a real contender.

Yeah, Newman was an interesting guy. The opposite of Horner, in many ways, since it was impossible to stop him from talking! smile I'm not sure what he feels about his current position in the industry, but projects of reasonable size seem to trickle in now and then (like TARZAN). He's never really been an A list composer though, unlike his brother, so there's that. Would be interesting to hear his thoughts on that issue at some point. A lot of his own music has HUGE fan appeal, and would work brilliantly in concert (I dream of THE PHANTOM selections in that setting, for example).
