There is no reason for these releases to be mastered like modern pop music. Predator 2 is so good, but I agree with Spymaster that it's very shrill (especially the End Title cue, which has always been one of my go-to tracks). For all the sunshiney bullshit that DMD is shoveling at us all the time, you'd think he'd take even this one bit of information back to Townson and have him communicate this to the mastering team.

The shrill nature of the recording may be reflective of the source, and that tells me the mastering may be minimizing the compression.

It is my understanding that Varese do read these things, and they are very aware of what we are saying.

Great suggestion please keep them coming Shaun and thanks for supporting us over the years! You can also send us an email with suggestions or issues you may have with a release. We appreciate the feedback!

They might be aware of what we're saying, but they're not fixing any of the issues that keep coming up about the mastering. The original album sounded fine (if at times inaudible compared to modern scores). I don't know why, but it's like they jacked up the volume AND the treble on the Deluxe Edition.

Completely untrue. Peggy Sue Got Married was brickwalled to the point where a wistful score became assaulting on the ears. Neither Outbreak or Gremlins 2 are brickwalled or normalized. A definite change in philosophy on those two.

Gremlins 2 sounds great to me on my high end system, I have no complaints. And for those that actually care about the music, did anyone notice in the opening cartoon music the first chord to Max Steiner's Warner Bros. fanfare is used three times in succession as a stinger?

G2 is a brilliant score. Great fun.

The sound quality for Gremlins 2 isn't up to par with me. There is a strange sound field on it. The first sounds of the first track sound like it has been recorded from a large hall or something. Not very pleasant to my ears. Some of the instruments sound dry and like the volume as too high with distortion. I hate today's digital age. Analogue is and always the best way to hear things. I wish this cd sounded like other Varese Sarabande cds. Who ever worked on this, i hope Varese never hires them again. I think Varese should redo this one and have replacement discs waiting to be shipped out. Sorry Varese, nothing personal. I just am not impressed with the way Gremlins 2 sounds. Just another Jerry Goldsmith remastered ehh cd release, like Innerspace...that was done several years ago.

I believe the Gremlins 2 hasn't been altered much from the source. That's how it sounded when mixed for the film from what I understand.

That's bull ca ca! The original albums sounds a hell of a lot better than this. I have never complained about Varese's sound quality. But there is no excuse for this. La La Land even messed up on Innerspace and i couldn't get any answers from Michael at the label on it.

I must admit that I own both original CD releases - and I never particularly cared for "Gremlins 2" while I loved "Outbreak" even in its shorter version.

These new expanded releases are simply fantastic. "Gremlins 2" now has captured my appreciation big time, I love this score! And "Outbreak" is even better than the previous short CD.

Concerning the sound - I donĀ“t have any complains about it.

You must have had a ear infection not to notice it. LOL!

I always found the original album quite dynamic but the overall sound of the new disc comes across as quite dry as you mention. Compare the end credit cymbal crashes on the new disc with the old and the old album is more dynamic. I don't think the synth work sounds much different but the orchestra is not as natural sounding as the old album.

I'm glad someone finds this flau of distasteful sound. I forgot to mention that when i first played the cd...the cartoon music on track one when it starts. It sounds like the music was recorded live in a big hall concert, even hallow sounding.

Yes, but the real discovery here is the madness of Howard's action score. I remember being floored by its power to (yes, score instances of people getting out of helicopters) to enhance all aspect of the film.

I still can't believe Gremlins 2 gets an expansion :-) I've to rewatch the movie today :-)

Not pleased with it's remastered job. It sounds hallow like it was recorded in a large concert hall. Too much reverb in it and sounds dry too. I never complained about a Varese Sarabande cd before...this is the first. I will have to enjoy the original album more than this release. To me this release is a Ehhh in sound quality.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this score from Goldsmith. Far more zanier and colourful as can be. The score is a delight from start to finish and is superbly recorded. Highly Recommended fun score from Goldsmiths's Early 90's Vintage period. Its a shame its going OOP once again. If you are on the fence on this one, now is the time to get it. Once it hits the secondary market the prices will double.

Fortunately this is one of the very few Varese DEs available for download so selling out is not the end of the world, that is unless they discontinue the download too.

I wish Varese would release more of their OOP DEs for download.

If it's less than 50, it's obviously also less than 100.

I changed it on here and on our Facebook page to reflect the NEW lower number and it was then under 50. smile
