L'ATTENZIONE (1985)
Music Composed by Pino Donaggio
Conducted by Natale Massara
Limited edition of 500 units

Quartet Records presents the expanded, first official CD premiere of sensual Pino Donaggio score.

Directed by Giovanni Soldati based on the novel by Alberto Moravia, L'attenzione tells the story of a neglected wife who gets jealous of her philandering husband. By organizing prostitutes for him, she feels that she can be of control of the situation while peeking at the liaisons through a special mirror. But when her daughter gets involved in the affairs, things take a turn for the worse... Starring Soldati's partner Stefania Sandrelli and featuring the actress' real-life daughter in the supporting role, L'attenzione is a sensual thriller with a few surprise twists to its steamy, softcore story.

The music by Pino Donaggio is a worthy follow-up to the composer’s other dark and sensual scores such as Carrie or Body Double. With the help of lush strings, playful woodwinds and a shy keyboard, Donaggio firmly centers his score on the character of the neglected wife Livia. The secondary themes are equally excellent with the piano based "Memories" and and eloquent strings passages inspired by the composer's Ordeal by Innocence unused score. The program is rounded out by three original songs performed by Dutch-Indonesian singer Patty Brard.

The score was previously issued only on LP whereas this CD also features several bonus tracks of previously unreleased cues. Mastered by Claudio Fuiano under the supervision of Mr. Donaggio. 8-page booklet features liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score.

Although I have the 30 minute on-demand CD of the original LP release for this, the new Quartet expansion is well worth the upgrade, in my opinion.
It offers nearly 25 minutes extra new music, including thematic material never heard outside of the film.
The main theme is very catchy in that typical pop/orchestral-Pino kind of way.
Plus, the upgrade in the booklet/stills/notes whups the bare-bones info of the PanaRecord issue.
If you like your Pino of the 1984 vintage (yes, Body Double is recalled), this is worthy of your time.

Whoa, neat score that I'm just getting to now! As HG says, often in that pop-orchestral combo style that Pino did/does so well. The film sounds like a soft core hoot! Would be interesting to see sometimes, in the dark shadows of my own apartment, LOL.
