John Debney just hinted this at his Facebook page:

"Big news coming soon...."

Could be LLL or Varese..I dont know. But great and EXCITING news nonetheless!

How do you manage to know it's Cutthroat Island from such a sybilin clue, please?

EDIT: don't get me wrong, it would be great, and an instant purchase for me, if the master used on Prometheus double CD, which sounds like compressed MP3, could be rework. Listen to the original release, you'll hear the difference (more clarity, more space).

He posted a video from Cutthroat Island with the post.

Thanks, great piece of news if it's confirmed soon (VCL?).

I don't get it... why is this big news if the complete release is already out?

Hope lives that the master will at last be the right one, not a compressed sounding one. Remember the difference between Varèse Cd Club's and Intrada's Great Train Robbery?

I strangely, somehow didnt see the film when it came out and didnt even get the CD so this may be a gem of a score that may have been overlooked by me and forgotten. So it will be nice to get acquainted with both of them now.

It is definitely not strange that you've never seen the film, buddy. I think most of us just bought the score blind.

I picked up the Blu Ray cheap, like, $5 cheap, but never made it more than 15 minutes into the movie big grin. But I've been loving the score for years, having both the original disc and the Prometheus 2 disc set. Amer, this will blow your mind once you hear the whole thing !

Aside from the mammoth 17 minute finale cue, my favorite track is the wedding waltz, which Debney wrote not for the film but for Harlan and Davis' wedding. Check those out on Youtube.

But the latest 2 disc set is easy to find at a decent price. How much more expanded could this sucker be? Maybe it'll just be a nice reissue with improved sound and art. It needs both razz

I'll certainly check this out, though gone are the days I would have jumped on this instantly. I have the original CD release, which I love, but its long since I've seen the movie and can't remember what other music was in it that was missing.

I think I was in the handful of people in the world that enjoyed the movie and Geena Davis in an action role smile

I saw the movie a couple of years ago... It wasn't too bad once I'd switched my brain off.

Well, if it's true, I'm lucky man, 'cause Island was in my wish-list and I had plan to get it (Prometheus edition) in next 2-3 months...
And if new edition will be better, why not get it?!

But now I have very simple question - was Prometheus edition really bad in sound quality and does it really need any upgrade (samples at SAE sounds fine for me, and they are in mp3)? Of course if some tracks were missing in earlier edition, it's another reason to get the new one...

Aside from the compressed sound that I remember people complaining about, there could also be the inclusion of a five-minute demo theme from David Arnold (though I've found conflicting reports that wasn't even done).

I'm happy with the expanded version from a few years back, and its way long enough. I don't remember any sound issues personally, but I don't have an expensive audio set up either.

All John Debney posted was "big news coming". That does not automatically mean a new re-issue of the soundtrack is coming. Maybe there's going to be a concert where that track is played, maybe there's going to be a Live To Projection concert of the film played somewhere, maybe there's a sequel to the movie about to be greenlit. Who knows!

All of those ideas are for more unlikely than a soundtrack reissue. It's not like this was a successful film.

The expanded 2CD release of Cutthroat Island is still available from SAE. I don't know the film well enough to know if it's totally complete or not, but it looks awful close, if not. For these reasons, I doubt it's a reissue of the score.

Chris.

While re-release might seem like a likely thing, let's remember that both previous albums are in print.
