MONDAY, JUNE 8

THE MARTIAN---trailer released for the Ridley Scott movie based on the novel. Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels and Kate Mara star. Premiere is November 25.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue4PCI0NamI

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS---Billie Lourd, daughter of Carrie Fisher, commented on rumors she will play Princess Leia's daughter in the sequel, "I'm not Princess Leia's daughter." She would not disclose what her role is.
Also, a photo in Mexico of a soft drink can with a photo from the sequel shows R2-D2, BB-8 and C-3PO with a red arm.

THE STAND---talks are underway for a Showtime eight-part miniseries which will be a prelude to a three-hour theatrical movie based on the Stephen King novel. Josh Boone will be the writer/director for both projects.

WAR MACHINE---Brad Pitt will star in this Netflix comedy movie based on the book THE OPERATORS: THE WILD AND TERRIFYING INSIDE STORY OF AMERICA'S WAR IN AFGHANISTAN. Pitt will play a "rock star" general who seeks to win the war in Afghanistan.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA---Dwayne Johnson commented on the contrasting fan comments about his upcoming remake of the John Carpenter cult classic that starred Kurt Russell, “My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter...It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity … If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good.” He added that Russell might also be involved in some capacity.

DAREDEVIL---a leak that Jason Statham was in negotiations to play Bullseye in Season 2 apparently killed any possible deal. A source said, "[Statham] was legitimately in heavy negotiations for the role and the leak killed it. Perhaps his agent saw the positive uproar and instantly upped the actor’s asking fee? Perhaps the studio spotted the same excited reaction and preemptively killed the deal out of fear of Statham’s management going for more money? Who knows. The bottom line is that yesterday the Crank star was at the top of the list and deep in negotiations and today Marvel has moved on to other pastures."

TRUE DETECTIVE---trailer released for Season 2.

CONSTANTINE---executive producer Daniel Cerone commented on the status of the series cancelled by NBC, "The cast and writers of Constantine are being released from their contracts. The studio tried to find a new home for the show...but those efforts didn’t pan out...All I can report is that the show is over."

BB-8? That's what their calling it? Sounds like the name of a sexbot.

Martian

I am interested in anything that does not involve monsters, or super hero types, or a reboot or a remake or a sequel, or Marvel stamped on it.

If that's true (and it probably is) I really don't know why people like doing that.

Aside from his B movie ventures this Statham is a guy that does not belong in movies.
Even in the B movie stuff he is such an unpleasant looking fellow, persistently miserable looking, and it seems that he is pretty much unpleasant guy in real life. Whenever I see his unpleasant looking mug in a movie, it is an instant deal breaker and puts that movie on the no-watch list. He is a low rent Bruce Willis wanna be.

Go See SPY, he's very funny poking fun at his image.

I'll second that. Very funny film, too.

I like Statham, I think he's got plenty of charisma (in his own style), and is one of those actors that can make an average movie seem pretty good.

Make sure you don't think about Robinson Crusoe On Mars when looking forward to this flick then......

I wouldn`t be that harsh, but I partly agree. I think however it is simply a combination between predictable plots for most of his films and the (usual) accompanying poor soundtracks. Note to Hollywood: Rap is not theatrically powerful. I like his work most when he plays quiet characters in films *without* unbelievably over-the-top/corny stunts & scenarios.

Then you should like it if they don't screw it up like Hollywood tends to do. If they stick to the book and don't have some juvenile script writer "enhance" (and ruin) the story, it should be excellent. The Martian is one of the best science (and engineering) fiction books ever written. It does not have the fast paced action and real-time anxiety of Gravity, but doesn't need it. It is truly good science fiction.

He was very good in The Bank Job just a few years ago. That was a low key performance in a nice little heist movie.

If I am not mistaken isn't he one of those found on the streets kinda actors? Had no acting background whatsoever and just got in by a chance offering?

I've seen the man do some fine work and while he's done more then his share action films, he does have a great sense of humor and has turned in some great comedic performances

One that comes to mind is SNATCH

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0208092/

A great little film.

Check it out.

Just like the Dark Tower adaptation this seems to stay in development limbo; either do it as a complete miniseries like the one Mick Garris directed or as a full fledged movie and do it in different installments. But this idea of combining a miniseries with a theatrical movie makes no sense whatsoever.

It really doesn't. It's the kind of ambition that is stupid. I didn't believe that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer were going to be the ones bringing The Dark Tower to the screen, and I don't think this Josh Boone guy will be the one bringing The Stand to the big OR small screen. These "announcements" that come along with the development of the film seem more like stalling, rather than progress. It would be more exciting to hear that his script had been green-lit, or there is a cast accumulating.

"Good-looking white guy in a tight corner, kicks some butt, beats the odds."

Ho hum. I'll wait until the dvd gets to the library.
