The short unreleased cues of Leviathan are among the creepiest I've ever heard. The score is very effective in the film, so maybe it's even more effective without the crappy film.

I wish they had a separate section for just composer collections. Gave up after going through North. I'm not going page after page after page and looking for them.

What a poorly structured site. And the flash is annoying.

Yeah it could be a lot more easily searchable, that's for sure.

Just saw the movie again today and the track "Doc’s History (1:08)" wasn't nowhere to be found...

Was it composed for the scene where Peter Weller talks about Doc with Megan Foster but went unused?

Do we have any news of a possible expanded/complete Leviathan score ? We already know that it won't be at Varèse since it seems that they no longer have the rights. This Goldsmith soundtrack is my holy grail, number 1 on my want list for a very long time !

I saw the film again recently, the missing 21 minutes are superb, when the full album version finally comes out, I think it'll be a real rediscovery for everyone ! Goldmsith's electronic sound experiments are superb, the album could even use a good remastering (and a very solid track with the monster rythmic motif is missing from the Varèse !). The film was an Italian-American co-production with the De Laurentis brothers, so who could edit this soundtrack ? Maybe Quartet ? Or an Italian label (but I doubt it) ?

Might be a tough ask, since as I understand it the tapes are somewhere in Italy. I have no idea what happened to the recording studio.

It's a holy grail for me at this point, it's one of the first Goldsmith scores that really left an impression.

Hi everyone !

I've just prepared a message for Frank De Wall that a friend knows in his contacts, De Wall regularly writes in the booklets of many albums and he knows a lot of people in the world of film music. I'm also considering contacting Bruce Botnick and Michael Dittrick who worked as music editors in 1989 on Leviathan, as music editors often have missing material or copies of masters and may be able to tell us about the condition of the masters of the complete "Leviathan" music by Jerry Goldsmith. If all this does not work, then I'll launch an online petition trying to collect as many signatures as possible, but we'll try to play the network to speed things up and find out where we really are for an hypothetical release of Leviathan complete score. It's been my number one grail for 34 years so I'm going to fight and do everything to make it work ! Fingers crossed !

I think you mean Frank DeWald… and rest assured, the labels are all well aware of the desire for an expansion of this. It’s complicated. But if it’s at all possible, I’m sure someone will make it happen.

Indeed you guessed right, I was talking about Frank DeWald, sorry for the spelling mistake. I also contacted Bruce Botnick on Facebook to try to find out more.

Beyond guesswork, we can always say "don't worry, someone will look and work on it one day" but it can take so many years, I just want to use my network and my contacts in the industry to speed things up. If that really doesn't work, as a last resort I'll launch an online petition, I think we have to put pressure on the rights holders in Italy, because I am convinced that the problem comes from Filmauro of the De Laurentiis brothers who owns the rights to Leviathan (with MGM). I'm going to do my best on my side so that things move and that we don't have to wait another eternity (it's been 34 years !).

This is one Goldsmith expansion I would up for and all over.
The dull sounding Varese CD could do with a sonic upgrade and 20 minutes of new material is lengthy enough to warrant further consideration (even if lots of it does sound like RENT-A-COP meets RAMBO III).
I remember me and a few mates used to get together and listen to a new score, for the first time after we'd all just bought it (we'd call it a Sesh) and rate/discuss it.
When the End Titles (A Lot Better) kicked in, I remember a few comments being along the lines of "did this film just become a Western!!"
Fun Times.
Bring on the Expando.
