I'm actually a little disappointed with this. It's very RC styled and not what I had expected. I actually prefer he Boxtroals score.

"... it nevertheless gives the rest of the music a slightly disappointing anonymity; the textures are lovely, and beautifully performed, but they don’t have any unique identifying feature that stays with you afterwards."

My frustration with Dario Marianelli, in a nutshell.

Just listening to VERTICAL LIMIT by JNH now and even that score has a bit more life and oomph than the mediocre DM effort on offer here and I consider VERTICAL LIMIT quite hit and miss in the first place!

saw the movie last week (it was ok, nothing bad, nothing great).
The score? there was a score? I can't remember a single note, or for that matter a single scene scene whose impact was enhanced by the score.
Just aural wallpaper, as so often is the case nowadays.

I really like Vertical Limit. Great action score!

I personally thought the score was very good for the movie! It mostly stayed in the background but really supported the sense of urgency without pushing it into an overwhelming area. Same with the dramatic portions. Emotional, but subtle. Kind of the way the entire movie was in my opinion. There were some possible cliched moments but they were done so in a soft enough way that it never felt like it was overly dramatic or beating you over the head like other movies.

I personally loved the film and the score. It struck kind of an emotional chord for me for some reason and left somewhat of a lasting impression.

Well, everybody has a right to their opinion but I thought the score was epic, moving and memorable and TOTALLY enhanced the film it was written for!

I'm not a real fan of Marianelli's work but this score made me seek him out...

I agree. IMO this is an excellent score. I have few Marianelli CDs but I've purchased this one.

I am not fond of mountain movies so I think I am not going to watch this movie. But its music is terrific!
Favourite cue is BECK GETS UP, an amazing crescendo.

Main theme (which I thought played by a viola, though everybody says it's a cello) strikingly reminds Fenton's COMPANY OF WOLVES, and that's why I appreciate it even more.

Saw this movie yesterday and quite liked it. LOVED the score!
Only problem I had was that was the climbers were on the mountain and had their thick outfits and oxygen mask on it was very hard to tell them apart so I found it difficult to sympathize with the characters.
The only characters whose fate had any emotional impact on me were Beck and Rob Hall and to a lesser extent Yasuko.
I can't even recall what happened to Jake Gyllenhaal's character.

Score was epic and I love the mountain theme.

Must be the weakest Marianelli's score I have heard so far...
Quite disappointing...
