ANOTHER Spider-Man reboot.

ANOTHER Green Goblin.

ZzZzZzZz.

McConaughey should play another character (not in the Spider-Man, or necessarily Marvel, movieverse), but they didn't ask me.

Whats a stripper with a heart of gold? Did she give free lap dances?

The reactions after the Cannes screening last week were divided, but I'm very curious to see it nonetheless. I loved Lanthimos' DOGTOOTH.

I was playing some music on an ipod dock while decorating the other week, and when some Jerry Goldsmith came on (Chinatown, as it happens) Mrs TG remarked that she liked it. You can have her, if you want - and if it saves you from becoming a sloth, tapir, xebu or whatever. big grin

(Actually, you can't, sorry, that was a joke. I'd miss her.)

Okay, a) Spider-Man has more villains than the damned Goblin and b) at least get it right this time.

But honestly, I'm kinda sick of the same villains. And if they go for yet another origin story, I'm out.

Spiderman doesn't exactly have the best rogues gallery, but how the heck is it that they never use Kraven? He seems like a natural choice for the big screen.

I hear that. One thing I definitely like about the '89 version of Batman is the fact that it wasn't an origin story. You found out what caused Batman to exist, but it wasn't about that overall.

I actually thought he had a fine Rogue's Gallery. The Chameleon, the Sandman, Doc Ock, the Vulture, the Lizard, Kraven, the Enforcers, Electro, Mysterio, the Molten Man and the Green Goblin were all created in the first couple of years by Lee and Ditko. Then we got the Rhino, the Kingpin, the Shocker and later the Jackal and so on... Spider-Man was arguably the most creatively successful of the Marvel line upon inception. Each new villain was a success. None of the other Marvel titles could say that at the time.

Add Venom (overrated but still a fan favorite), Carnage, Morlun, Dr. Smythe and the Spider Slayers, Carrion, Tarantula, Hammerhead and still others and you've got fodder for a plethora of films. Hell, they could do the Clone Saga. smile

Dogtooth was one very strange film! yikes.

I really don't think we needed a sequel to that classic but at least one aspect of the new film will be great.

The first trilogy ended disastrously because the studio (as in "that one guy") was adamant about Venom being shoehorned into an already scripted film. Venom is the kind of antagonist (as with Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Kraven, etc.) who requires an entire film.

They should have just done a movie centered around Venom, and, for the fourth movie, adapted the excellent Ned Leeds/Hobgoblin storyline, and they could have included The Rose (for the unitiated, it's a "he," not a "she") with no problems whatsoever. That would have made an incredible movie.

If we ever get to see Kraven and Hobgoblin, I'll be surprised. Fingers crossed for Black Cat...

Well, the problem is, I never liked those villains. I've only enjoyed a handful of Spiderman's core gallery (Doc Ock, Kraven, Goblin, and maybe Venom depending on how he is used). So it's a matter of preference for me.

I totally agree. The film-going public pretty much know how Spidey got his powers now, we don't need to see it for a third time. Just get on with the movie for goodness sake. And please God can they get the casting right this time. Andrew Garfield was dreadful as Spidey and even worse as Parker, although to be fair I hated both of Webb's movies anyway.

I'm a big Spidey fan but I can't believe the movies by and large have been so average. Rami's first one wasn't bad but the Goblin was terrible (Willem DeFoe was however great in the role) and the FX were pretty poor, Spidey 2 nailed it perfectly, Spidey 3 had its moments but was pretty poor in parts and the two Webb movies have been bland. They just can't seem to get the movies right any more the same way nobody seems to be able to do a decent Superman movie (Man of Steel had a bland lead actor, a dull story and the action was awful and don't even get me started on Superman Returns, an irredeemably dire movie).

Hated the casting for the reboot. (though I never saw either film) Other than Spidey (and Superman) they hire big names for all the parts regardless if they fit the look or the personality of the characters. Sort of the way animation has gone. They used to hire the right voice actor for the part, but over the last 20 years they hire big name stars regardless if the voice fits.

As far as the original Spidey films, the first one was probably the best. Hated the second one because of it's erratic tone from dead serious to Monty Python humor. Despite it's flaws I thought the third film was pretty good, realizing of course there were to many villains and a ridiculous plot.

I agree we don't need a sequel to Blade Runner, but not because I consider the film a classic. I just think it is terribly over-rates.

Right from the very first time I saw Blade Runner I've held the view - admittedly in the minority it seems - that the film was very much a case of style over substance and take away Cronenworth's incredible shots and Trumbull's FX, you are left with little more than a humdrum cop story featuring some fairly average acting (Harrison Ford is especially bad in this, mumbling his way through the character scenes and mugging with some fairly silly facial reactions during the fight sequences).

But even the film's biggest critics like me cannot deny it is a visual masterpiece and so Deakins is probably the only choice for the sequel's DP.

I thought it was cringe worthy and still do. It's horribly acted, had uninteresting characters, a weak story, and was terribly boring. And this is someone who loves 2001 and ST TMP so I don't need constant action.

Actually, the style IS the substance to a large degree, just like with ALIEN. That's the great thing about film -- it can do so much more than "just" tell a story; it can communicate other layers of meaning, emotion etc. through visuals and sound alone. BLADE RUNNER is one of the most quintessential examples of that. It's one of my top, top favourite films (that I even used as analysis in my master thesis) - molded on a type of filmmaking that I favour over most anything else.

But I respect your differing view. I know all about being in a minority on an issue.
