I find it a bit of a slog "...for solo piano". I have a couple of CDs like that from years ago by Michael Chertok (I think that's his name), haven't listened to them in a long time but they're not a particularly involving listen, not doubting his talent.
I think this is awesome! Doyle has, on occasion, done his own piano arrangements of his work and they have been GORGEOUS. How about the final track of Secondhand Lions? Have you heard that Thomas? It's not a slog at all! Might be the highlight of the entire very-enjoyable album! The question is, will Doyle be writing the arrangements for this album?
I haven't heard that Yavar. I wasn't really referring to individual cues which are good and I don't mind that at all, more the fact of sitting through a full album can be a bit tiresome.
I only have two Doyle albums in fact, 'Frankenstein' and 'Much Ado About Nothing'.

I also think that piano-only albums can get tiresome (that Gloria Cheng CD was surprisingly meh for me, outside of the Newman piece), but yeah, a cue or two here and there is how I usually like it. Listen to this:

The Firm waves hello. Then chases you down a pair of escalators.
Ha, I bought that. That uses piano in a multitude of ways, though. I just meant straight-up piano albums, like the Gloria Cheng release. Wait a minute, you knew what I meant this whole time, didn't you? You bastard, man.

Yavar
Yes and he also performed everything himself. You can also check one of the recent FSMO articles that features selections of his piano variations of Cinderella themes. This album has been long coming.

The Gloria Cheng "Montage" album is very good! Ah, to each his own...

I think I built it up in my head too much in the what--year before the album came out.
