THURSDAY, MAY 14

THE BLOB---Samuel L. Jackson will star in the latest remake of the 1958 Steve McQueen monster movie. Jackson will play a biochemistry professor who battles the monster that emerges from subterranean Earth. Simon West (THE EXPENDABLES 2, CON AIR) is the director.

THE SIMPSONS---Harry Shearer announced he won't be returning for the two new seasons to apparently pursue other opportunities due to a possible contract dispute. A source said Shearer was offered $14 million guaranteed.
Showrunner Al Jean commented, “Harry Shearer was offered the same deal the rest of the cast accepted, and passed. The show will go on and we wish him well. Maggie took it hard. We do not plan to kill off characters like Burns and Flanders but will recast with the finest voiceover talent available.”

SUPERGIRL---CBS released a trailer for the new series.

So we’re looking for a new writer to rewrite the whole script." Woo earlier said the project will be a miniseries in the US and a movie in China.

STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE---Diego Luna (ELYSIUM) has joined the spinoff cast of Felicity Jones, Sam Claflin and Ben Mendelsohn in which rogue resistance fighters plan to steal plans for the Death Star.

THE CRAFT---Sony Pictures remake underway of the 1996 witchcraft movie that starred Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Robin Tunney.

JACKIE---Natalie Portman will play Jackie Kennedy in this movie that follows her during the four days after John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Darren Aronofsky is the producer.

RIPPER STREET---Amazon renewed the series for two more seasons.

SNATCHBACK---Rachel Weisz is the star/producer of this movie based on the true story of Maureen Dabbagh who spent over ten years finding her daughter who was kidnapped by her ex-husband and taken to the Middle East. Weisz will play a mercenary who specializes in locating kidnapped children. Pete Travis (DREDD, VANTAGE POINT) is the writer/director.

HANDS OF STONE---Edgar Ramirez and Robert De Niro star in this biomovie about boxer Roberto Duran.

The Supergirl preview was cringe worthy. The actress or the character is incredibly annoying. Looks down at bullets bouncing off of her boobs. LOL Says lines like "You got to be kidding me!" Has Superman ever done this stuff? Hollywood has a one note answer for how to handle female characters.

I actually had just the opposite reaction to the Supergirl trailer. Although my reaction to other comic book related properties usually opposes your own, so I guess it's just a difference in tastes wink

I went from very uninterested pre-trailer to "wow, that looks great!" The show seems like it will have a level of earnestness and fun that was missing from Man of Steel, and in some ways missing from the competitor's product as well.

I'll stick with Linda Carter's Wonder Women. big grin On a side note does Supergirl work at the Daily Planet in the comics? That appears to be the case in this preview.

I think she may be at Galaxy Broadcasting. She works there in the preview for Cat Grant. Galaxy and the Planet were both owned by Morgan Edge back in the older DC continuity. I enjoyed the preview and am looking forward to the series.

As for Harry leaving the Simpsons, maybe I should send in a tape as I can do several of his voices. Wish he'd change his mind sign on for the 2 years and maybe can end the series after that.

That sense of "Fun" was very much missing from "MAN OF STEEL".

This show seems to have it's heart in the right spot and Kara is at the very start of her career as a Superhero, but also wants a "Normal Life" and let's be honest, she's a young woman who clearly is smart and will look at the world in a very different way then her Cousin.

I really liked what I saw and they seem to have a very good cast and the young playing Kara seems to fit the role like a glove.

It's into the DVDR the moment i can program it in

If they ever need Kara/Supergirl to sing Melissa Benoist has the pipes (see her run on Glee)

At another forum suggestiosn about killing off or retiring the characters Harry did was brought up. That's not just one or two characters, that's several main and secondary characters, and re-occuring favorites, such as:

  • Ned Flanders
  • Principal Skinner
  • Mr. Burns
  • Smithers
  • Newscaster Kent Brockman
  • Reverened Lovejoy
  • Otto
  • Lenny, one of Homer's two friends at the planet (also, Larry, Carl's friend -- now Homer has nobody at the plant)
  • Scratchy
  • Kang (one of the two green aliens in the Halloween specials)
  • Dr. Hibbert, the Simpson's personal family doctor since even the time Bart was a little kid (only seen in flashbacks, obviously)
  • McBain
  • Radioactive Man
  • Superintendant Charlmers

This is more than Phil Hartman being murdered and two beloved semi re-occurying characters being retired. This is more than simply re-casting the voice of one of two characters. This is big.

I don't care if the story sucks. I'll watch, but I think they should have stuck
with the first costume style in the trailer. And I hope Quert Yuiop shows up.

Quite possibly the most unnecessary remake ever.

However, if the girls do things the "rite" way, i.e. in the buff, I'm in.

I get the point you're making, but you could have put that part of the post a bit more tactfully.

(Waylon Smithers wasn't voiced by Harry Shearer initially, so he could be the first character to be played by three people on the show.)

Mike_J: "Pah, she's no Laura Vandervoort."

World's biggest fan of Helen Slater: "Pah, she's no Helen Slater."

Teenage boys and their dads about to develop crushes: "Screw you haters."

  • Superintendant Charlmers (sic)

    That's Hank Azaria.

Maybe, this will finally put - if not a stop, then certainly - a brake on "The Simpsons".

And I caught the "Supergirl" preview this morning. A lot of people compared it to the recent SNL Black Widow sketch. I really see that, except the "Supergirl" preview was - What's that word I'm looking for? Oh, yeah. - good.

Hopefully Azaria will split when the time comes to renew their contracts again. Regarding the Simpsons, I'm with Captain Kirk: "Let them die!"
