I listened to my copy last night. Sounds beautiful, especially "Nocturne".

Some wonderful music from Mr. Herrmann. Thanks for re-releasing this, Kritzerland.

Don't know, but clearly he is a knucklehead. Herrmann will be around long after we are all gone. A true classical composer.

Well that makes sense because before the Varese box FSM made 3000 copies of their edition, which many are probably happy with despite the inferior sound quality. But this one was only available as part of the very expensive very limited box.

Yavar

Yeah I'm in that boat. With limited fundsat my disposal I decided I didn't need The Day The Earth Stood Still and Beneath The Twelve Mile Reef re-issues as I had the earlier versions, but White Witch Doctor I only have represented by the Gerhadt suite, so had to have it!

It's arrived in the UK - and it's excellent. Moody and romantic, it's a great addition to my Herrmann collection.

Bruce,

I think you're a longtime Philippe Rombi admirer.
Have you ever considered releasing (or rereleasing) a Rombi title ?

Titles such as Une hirondelle a fait le Printemps or le cout de la vie are long out of print.

After all Quartet and Music Box are regularly releasing hollywood scores, can't Kritzerland release recent French scores ?

We're looking into some foreign scores for sure.

I'm actually amazed at the wonderful sound quality of this release. Even when listening with a crappy pair of apple earbuds it sounds amazing. I love the sound Herrmann gets from his high strings. It may sound dated but I sometimes prefer this to the faint and straining strings we get from a lot of modern scores which to my ears often sounds pinched.
Bravo!

Sorry for bringing the thread up... but listening to this fine Kritzerland release at this moment I had to.

There a no few highlights in Herrmann's oeuvre but I'd say WHITE WITCH DOCTOR is definitely one of them. What a tremendous, tender, ominous, beautiful score!

I can't agree more, such a rich and diverse score, covering so many moods and conjuring up images that the film [which I've never seen] could never match!
