LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS
LUV - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music By Nuno Malo

(May 11, 2015 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the LUV – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on May 26 and on August 14, 2015. The album features the film’s original score by Nuno Malo (NO GOD NO MASTER, THE CELESTINE PROPHECY).

“We wanted a direction that was an exploration of texture rooted in a strong main theme,” said Malo. “To create a palette that was original, but not for the sake of being original. The director wanted to me to create a musical texture that would add the poignancy to the main character - the boy. So there was quite a bit of experimentation. It starts out as a more electronic score, and moves toward a more orchestral palette as we reach towards the climatic scenes in the latter part of the film.”

Nuno Malo has become over the last decade one of Portugal’s most respected and busiest film composers. In 2011, Nuno was awarded Breakout Composer of the Year 2010 at the IFMCA Awards, where he was also nominated for Best Original Score for a Drama Film with his score for AMALIA. Mr. Malo’s score for LUV was nominated for Best Score for a Feature Film at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards 2012. This past year he was nominated again by the IFMCA for NO GOD, NO MASTER as Best Original Score for an Action/Adventure/Thriller. Nuno is that unique breed of composer who seamlessly blends elements from classical, modern, and ethnic music. His balanced command of traditional and new film scoring techniques produces an original combination of sounds that breathes emotion into all of his work.

An 11-year-old boy gets a crash course in what it means to be a man when he spends a day with the uncle he idolizes in LUV, a poignant and gritty coming-of-age story featuring standout performances by Common, Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Charles S. Dutton and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr.

“There were several key scenes, but for me the whole last 15 minutes of the film, which deals with loss, and pain, and courage, was pivotal,” Malo explained. “I knew we would eventually had to build the music towards those emotions, and the whole journey is a preparation for those moments.”

Indomina presents LUV currently available on DVD. The LUV – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally on May 26 and on CD August 14, 2015.

I received my copy of LUV by the great Nuno Malo today. Four listens later and I still want more. Malo really shakes things up here. Freaking amazing- this guy. From the get go I'm hearing wailing guitar squall ala Thurston Moore or Brian Eno "treated guitar" and I'm thinking to myself "what the &%*%"!! I was hooked in. The album's first cut sounds like freaking Sigur Ros and it just get's better and better.
It was only afterwards that I look at the booklet and see that it is Malo himself playing guitar throughout the album!!
With each score I hear I get all that closer to thinking: besides Velazquez and Beltrami- Malo might be my favorite composer.

Genius is Genius.

Two from the Maestro already this year. Let's keep hope alive for more. Get this CD.

Agreed, McCurry. This is one of the year's highlights for me. It's also far superior to Malo's BACKLIGHT, which was also released this year (the soundtrack; the film is 5 years old) -- but still not quite as good as last year's NO GOD NO MASTER, which was one of the year's 10 best. Malo's one to look out for, for sure!

Interesting is that this is not Lakeshore's usual shitty pack, but regular jewel case...
Hopefully someone finally came back to his senses and future releases will be the same...

Just for the record... I noticed that all Lakeshore albums are digipacks, but the ones co-released with Phineas Atwood are in regular jewel cases.
