Before the internet, lots of film composers' faces were unknown to most people. That has changed now.

But are there still composers you have never seen a picture of?

Good question. Not many left. Some of those you've interviewed would qualify. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen Levay and Elias. Nothing a Google search wouldn't fix, but a lot of the composers who have been out of the limelight for many years only have old pictures out.

I looked and looked but I just couldn't find a picture of Brian Kilkline. Ditto Scott Lee Hart.

A quick scan through my list of CDs, and I don't recall knowing what any of the following look like:

Abel Korzeniowski
Alex Heffes
Arnau Bataller
Craig Safan
Dennis McCarthy
Francesco De Masi
Frederik Wiedmann
Graeme Revell
John Frizzell
Marc Streitenfeld
Maurice Jarre
Richard Hartley
Robert Folk
Stephen Warbeck
Trevor Jones
Zacarias M. De La Riva
Zbigniew Preisner

I guess it's not something I'm curious about, and only stumble across a picture by chance on the internet, or it's staring me in the face on a CD sleeve (I don't read the booklets, so don't know if there's pictures in them), or it's posted somewhere on this forum.

I remember the first time I ever saw some of these composers, thanks to Big Screen Records.

Yikes! Not even Maurice Jarre?!? Hit that Google button, man! smile

Here's a slightly older pic. He looked very frail and almost unrecognizable in his last years.

In my mind's eye I can remember how several of those guys look like - Korzeniowski, Safan, Revell, Frizzell, Streitenfeld, Jarre, Folk, Jones...

A photograph of Skiles can be found in a back issue of The Film Score's Society journal "The Cue Sheet".

In the late 1970s, when I was mesmerized by the CARRIE LP, I used to wonder what Pino Donaggio looked like. I always pictured him as an elderly, classical super-maestro, like Leopold in the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Long-Haired Hare." And it turns out he was more like 37 at the time.

I have never seen John Musser, Stephen Hague's co-composer on 1987's Some Kind Of Wonderful.

Though he did look exceptionally dressed.
