I'm very surprised no one has posted about this one yet. So, I thought this one was an improvement overall. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Captain America action and interaction. CA got the best of the CG, in my opinion.

One unintentionally hilarious moment: the look on Mark Ruffalo's (Dr. Bruce Banner) face as the Scarlet Menace (or whatever her name is) reveals she was forcibly sterilized at the completion of her badass assassin's course. The filmmakers repeated the same perplexed look twice during that stretch of dialogue; I know Mark Ruffalo is a much better actor than that. Seems that take was chosen for comedic purposes. Yet, even in mega-productions like this, I'm sure they miss some essentials.

As far as the score goes...I can't recall it.

How about using the spoiler function as there are people who haven't yet seen the movie.

No spoilers.

I'd give it a solid 3/5, on par with the first but with a different set of strengths and weaknesses. The villain's nicely chatty, which is fun, but he also comes across as much less of a threat than he should. If you enjoy the Marvel stuff, as I do, you should have a blast with much of this; if you don't, this isn't the film to convert you. I'm in the minority who seem to prefer the individual character films to the big ensemble event films.

The score is only intermittently noticeable, but the movie's so busy that it hardly registers. Then again, I didn't feel like Silvestri's was any masterpiece either, so this didn't come across as a big disappointment on that front.

I saw it today as a last minute decision. I wasn't expecting to go but I really liked it. I enjoyed Spader's role just as I expected to, though he seemed to be almost harmless until it is revealed what he is really trying to do. I enjoyed some of the other characters I wasn't aware of like the twins. I thought everything generally went along nicely and it had the scope and weight it needed. I wasn't a fan of the score as used in the film because it was largely buried under the sound effects. Though I should not be surprised by this at all. The new Avengers theme was even more boring than Silvestri's theme so I didn't think it added all that much.

The negative reviews pretty much sums it up for me. Over bloated, endless uninvolving action, to many characters, lots of bad puns, boring score, and an underdeveloped villain. Seems RDJ (Whom I loved in Iron Man 1 and Avengers 1) is starting to phone it in as well.

I found a couple of action sequences a bit hard to see who was who, the score was a bit underwhelming and some of the scenes of the Avengers battling the Ultiron drones were a bit too similar to the first film's climax when they fought the Chitauri army but those quibbles aside I absolutely loved the movie.

The main cast is just simply excellent and work together so well. They're all good but I especially like Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Having been sidelined for the first 2/3s of the first flick, he really has a chance to shine here and he is just fabulous. The bit where he aims an arrow at Quicksilver and talks about how nobody would notice if he shot him had me in stitches.

The staging of some of the fights were as close to style of the comic books as I've ever seen and the dialogue contains so many zingers I lost track.

For me, the film really hot the spot when the camera is rotating around the team showing them all in action against the mini-Ultrons. At that point ai just anted to shout out "yesssss!". Such a fabulous "hero" moment and I can't recall too many of those in the last 10 years.

Can't wait to see it again.

I love comics, so I suppose I'm a fanboy. cool

As someone who is extremely cynical of super-hero films but also as one who adored the comics growing up--I really enjoyed the film. Lots of fun and superhero dramatics. I especially enjoyed seeing the spirit of what Marvel Comics used to be yet the movie maintained its own flavor. I loved the emphasis on teamwork--and the divisiveness that can come with it--Cap was magnificently noble and I loved the scenes where it was clear he was the leader; even Stark defers to him in a couple of scenes.

One small quibble: a thought going through my mind during some of the movie was "Hank Pym will be disappointed to learn that he didn't design Ultron." But then Ultron in the film is based on him anyway, so it works in that contextThankfully we are spared the Wasp, at least thus far.

Is that enough spoiler shield? wink

There were moments where I was overjoyed by what I saw. Probably because I have a lifetime spent with these characters and to see them in live action is tremendous. The characters' interactions, the heroism, the appearance of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Heli-carrier, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury--such an effective cameo; Scarlet Witch being gorgeous wink and her pain when Quicksilver died, Hawkeye's family story was a huge plus for me, and I once again point out Captain America's steadfast indefatigable spirit--just fantastic. Oh, and Iron Man's wicked wit.

As for the score: there's nothing in this film that's memorable; certainly nothing worthy of any "in-depth" discussion. wink Serviceable at best. smile

The Ant-Man trailer looked much more put together and focused than the one I'd seen where most of it was The Great Michael Douglas' monologue. The newer trailer had a better mix of what I hope the film actually is.

As for anyone who doesn't read the Avengers comics but are intrigued, DO seek out the trade paperbacks of Roger Stern's run on the book; you won't be disappointed.

I agree pretty much completely with all this, which is a bit annoying, really. smile

I haven't read an American comic since I was about 10 but the scene Mike mentioned did remind me of in particular a JLA full page drawing where there was no dialogue, just all the characters fighting with a caption about one picture being worth a thousand words.

I liked it more than the first one and certainly more than the second Capt America and Thor films.

Pretty much a repeat of the first movie including character set ups and camera moves.

The back stories for Hawkeye and Black Window are soap opera stuff added to get the female audience into the film. BW issues are a bit sexist. Did they have to go there?

Not knowing the comics or story I thought the Hulk Buster was Ultron a few months back! (though I eventually caught on it wasn't.) HB is a more menacing looking character than the feminine Ultron.

I'll go back to sitting on my porch and yelling at the rowdy kids on my street. wink

These things are just technical exercises with enormous budgets anymore. Unfortunately the box office numbers prove out that for most movie goers a very well financed technical project is good enough. It continues to go in the direction that Lucas and Spielberg talked about like a year ago.

Yeah this sums it up. Even ppl that like the film admit it's many weaknesses. But the eye candy and banter rules the day. If we strip the budget and effects I wonder what ppl would think of the film?

That's about it! They would write about her love life and female issues. Oh wait they just did!
I'll eat my hat the day they make Thor or Captain America impotent as a subplot.

We just recently had a "disagreement" on the merits of Tron Legacy. So there's proof for ya we're not. wink

Jim,

I admit that Solium and I uncannily agree on virtually everything.
I am very glad about this because otherwise I would feel truly odd.
However, we are actually two people, not 2 personalities in the same person.

Yes, we mildly disagreed on Tron 2, but even then I relented, because I felt like I might lose that other part of myself.

Oh please. I wish Lucas and Spielberg update the prediction for indi-films. If the effects were gone you'd have that.

I thought it was just okay. On par with the first Avengers team-up movie. This one had too many characters, and (especially in the cases of the "very familiar" characters like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America) there wasn't really room for much development. Lots of cool stuff happening, fun banter, etc. Not unlike a comic book, which is fine to me. I don't regret spending my $10.

But I was let down, especially when compared to Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy, all of which had a certain sense of style, and all of which I really liked.

It does seem like there are quite a few people around here who log in just to complain about the newest superhero movie every time it comes out, and I'm not sure why you keep seeing them. But hey, your $10 counts the same as my $10 to the people who make them, so keep on going to them wink

This review posted yesterday pretty much represents my thoughts as well.
Andy Dursin does quite well pointing out the weaknesses.
It is certainly true, from the numbers, that most people simply do not care about such things.
