Play Needful Things & Carlito's Way. Then Thor & Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit.
The prosecution rests.
Agreed. And Doyle's far from the only victim. Thankfully, as with Chris Young and his Monkey King scores, when Doyle does a foreign film or a smaller independent film, he's still got the magic (listen to La ligne droit or Jig, done the same year as Thor; it's night and day.) (And Brave was also really excellent, though not quite on the level of his early work and certainly underserved by the album.)
Eragon has glimpses of his old brilliance too - the Last Legion even more. Those are probably 10 years old however, I'm too lazy to check. It's a huge shame to me, since his early work still gets a lot of my attention. Doyle is such a jovial guy, he's surely happy to be working, but regressing true talent down to RC land....it just doesn't work.
So to stay on topic, I'll have to jump on this Newman album. He also could write big (The Phantom) or small (Mr. Destiny....sort of ) like no one else. He dipped into Zimmer country a little on Tarzan, right? I have it, don't remember it being anything....must have been annoyed it didn't recall classic Newman. Hmmm....
I have only seen bits and pieces of Coneheads, and nothing of the other two selections on this CD.
I added this to my Christmas wish list after hearing only a few samples and low and behold. I ACTUALLY received it!!!
I really enjoy this CD (all three sections) and I am very glad that I added it to my wish list. Hopefully there is more from David Newman coming down the line.
