If I had to pick one whose work never disappointed, it would be Miklos Rozsa. He was omitted from a U.S. Postal Stamp tribute many years ago. That needs to be rectified. And most important of all, we need more of his scores from the 30's and 40's on CD.

You're preaching to the proverbial choir. Miklos Rozsa is, and shall always be, my life long favorite composer.

Is that true? How could it happen? One of the two or three greatest.

I was just thinking about the US Postage Stamp situation the other day, prompted by my belated discovery that the P.O., a very few years ago, had decided to abandon their own rule about waiting a decade after death before honoring someone with a stamp. (I noticed the Maya Angelou stamp and suddenly thought, "Hey, what gives…?") Bottom line, there's no reason now not to give Rozsa his due. And, there must be other worthy film musicians who have passed on in the years since that first series was printed...

Of course, tributes for Rozsa, Goldsmith, Bernstein, Raksin, Delerue and Jarre.

The U.S.P.S. [grrrrr] issued one back in 1999 to a fellow who looked like him. But ole Cody , they just wanted to "stamp" him out.

Maybe more appropriate for the French postal system to portray Delerue and Jarre on it's stamps (?)

I was debating with myself whether to include them and I decided to for two reasons: They both worked a lot on American films and in many of those films they had an American sound.
Think of Jarre's work on westerns and better yet Delerue's work on SILKWOOD and STEEL MAGNOLIAS. Was the wonderful Audrey Hepburn a U.S. citizen or for that matter, Ingrid Bergman.I believe a U.S.postage stamp honoring Ingrid Bergman will be issued later this year.
But like you say, Delerue and Jarre should definitely be remembered in the country of their birth and where they first got international recognition. I totally agree with you.

And Rozsa and Jerry Goldsmith too. The rerecording of "Ben-Hur" by the Symphony Orchestra Of Rome was the score that got me hooked on Rozsa, and he still remains one of my top five favorite film composers.

KING OF KINGS was one of the first film scores that ever grabbed me. I was only a kid in grade school when I saw that film on TV. The main theme went straight through to my heart. I asked my parents to buy the LP for me. That's where my love for soundtrack music started.
