Catch a flight to terror with premiere release of exciting Marco Beltrami soundtrack from Wes Craven air travel thriller!

Catch a flight to terror with premiere release of exciting Marco Beltrami soundtrack from Wes Craven air travel thriller! Rachel McAdams is the passenger, Cillian Murphy is her seatmate, terror is the name of the game. Beltrami sets both mood and pulse from the outset with lean, suspenseful ideas for strings and French horn over steady rhythm in percussion & keyboards, with low brass outbursts slashing through all. As the suspense increases, so do the above musical devices, culminating in aggressive, dynamic action music for the entire orchestra. Interestingly, Beltrami relies heavily on French horn, bass trombone to bring intensity to his score but omits trumpet. Resulting action sequences are grim, darker-edged, powerful! Crisp recording, dynamic performances create vibrant audio, lengthy cues create coherency. Another exciting asset: generous maxed-out CD playing time. Film itself is scored nearly wall-to-wall with numerous cues playing front and center. All of them (plus two "extras") are presented in stereo from pristine condition digital scoring session mixes courtesy Paramount Pictures. Marco Beltrami composes, Pete Anthony conducts. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!

That's almost as much music as there were minutes in the film. I don't even remember there being this much music.

Still, neat surprise.

Ecstatic! Fantastic release. Tight thriller score. Great month for Beltrami releases with this, La-La's Yuma, and The Gunman! Wonderful.

Thanks Intrada! Here's hoping for many more Beltrami releases to come!

Great score by Beltrami. That being said, this doesn't feel like a title Intrada would have released. *shrugs*

Wow, this came outta nowhere! Great score from Beltrami. I wasn't expecting this from Intrada—or from anyone else—anytime soon, but I'm glad that it's here!

Let's hear it for labels that do the unexpected. smile

Funny, I've seen the film a few times now (love it!) but I don't remember a note of score.

Funny, I've seen the film a few times now (love it!) but I don't remember a note of score.

That's because aside from the big action climax, there isn't a great deal there that's interesting. Most of it is pretty quiet suspense underscore.

Intrada continues to impress with these surprises, so far 2015 has been the year of intrada for me.

I went to see Red Eye in the theater and while not Wes Craven's best movie, it was still passable. Beltrami's score to me is similar to what composers like Howard Shore, Terence Blanchard, Hans Zimmer, John Powell were doing at the time for suspense thrillers like these. Though generic for some people, I think there are some underrated gems amongst those scores that have yet to emerge and in that regard Red Eye is very welcome.

I love this film -- an underrated gem of a thriller that I've had on DVD forever.

Can't remember much of the music, though. Will be checking out the samples.

Looking forward to seeing how these tracks are presented; many of them are combinations of cues from the score. For example, the longest cue in the score as recorded runs 4:34, but some here run much longer. Some tracks combine at least 3 cues. Everything does seem to be in chronological film order though. Very curious how these "suites" of cues flow together and whether they play well as one long track. No big deal in the end of course, the most important thing being that this wonderful music is getting released!

I'm hoping it makes for a good listening experience, unlike Intrada's presentation of Horner's complete score to Patriot Games. While I get the idea of limiting the number of short cues, the combinatons of cues into single tracks on that score was ill-advised in my opinion, with some "suite tracks" containing cues with such wildly different tones and moods that they didn't flow well and the transitions could be jarring.

Sometimes, of course, combining cues is a brilliant move, as in Beltrami's Snowpiercer score. The track "Requesting an Upgrade" was a combo of two cues and was infinitely better as a combined piece than the tracks were when they were individuals, and the flow between the two cues was seamless when married together. I can see that being the case for Red Eye.

Btw, the "End Credits" track on Intrada's release is a suite of cues from the score as no End Credits track was specifically written for the film. According to the sample, though, it does include an alternate version of the Main Title Sequence which is not included on this CD otherwise (the alt version begins @ 0:31 of the End Credits sample and runs to the end of the sample).

Again, great release, Intrada!

Btw, the "End Credits" track on Intrada's release is a suite of cues from the score as no End Credits track was specifically written for the film.

For those who haven't seen the movie, the reason the track is so long is that the movie

double spaces

the credits

and puts each credit

on two lines

e.g.

"Lisa

Rachel McAdams"

and rolls them really slowly to pad the movie out. It's not overflowing with FX work and stunt teams...

Great to see Beltrami finally getting some love from the specialty labels, with this and LLL's upcoming 3:10 to Yuma. Here's hoping they will also look into other great unreleased Beltrami scores.

Can't wait to order this one, remember I was pretty bummed back then that there was no score release for this one

It's great indeed, but don't leave out Varese's contributions to presenting Beltrami scores expanded (Scream, Mimic) as well as regular releases. Credit where credit is due.
