"...First, you've got that bloody old fortress on top of that bloody cliff. Then you've got the bloody cliff overhang. You can't even see the bloody cave, let alone the bloody guns. And anyway, we haven't got a bloody bomb big enough to smash that bloody rock. And that's the bloody truth, sir..."

Must be tough to write a song where you have to use the word "nitroglycerin" in the lyrics.

And at one point, Baker is referred to in dialogue by his real name, not the character's name.

Really ? Kind of a goof or is it something to do with the character's name portrayed by Allan Cuthbertson ?

Well I never...!

I might have to take it back - will need to watch it again for the exact context.

That's like a minor character called "Connery" popping up in Thunderball...

"Close your eyes, pull the trigger and think of England!" said Niven, while up to his neck with Peck.

Enter a young Richard Harris, making a memorable impression.

This was the movie all the guys were loving in my youth. (Later, in prep school, it was THE GREAT ESCAPE.)

Having seen the film - at the cinema on re-run(s) and on TV - I bought a VHS copy: it was a poor P&S version, awful colours, etc. and with dialogue edited.

When a restored version was released a few years later I was interested to watch the (short) documentary which detailed the restoration (e.g. getting the light right in the early scenes which had been filmed day for night) and with regard to the dialogue I think the restorers had to find a soundtrack from overseas. As a result all of the bloody descriptive words were back for us to hear ...

... so when I played the film a short while later, my young son asked Is it the bloody version we're going to watch?

There's no answer to that ... smile ... howver it did generate a wonderful family get-together anecdote!

I remember i went through a stage of collecting widescreen vids and im sure the sequence about the audio restoration showing difference between bloody version and alternate pg version was on that. I could be wrong and memory playing tricks but Im sure i saw it before any extras on a dvd!

Glad you are ok hitoshi.
