Ridiculous! Ant-Man??? Ant....Man? No verisimilitude at all. This should have been a straight comedy not an action spectacle.

I suppose you could get some interesting filmic riffs on being miniature, but the concept smacks of desperation to me. ("So, what now?" "I know, how about someone really tiny, we could call him Antman" "Ha ha ha, that's really funny. Wait, you're serious, aren't you.") The character--in his original incarnation--was a founding member of the (super-hero) Avengers, back in 1963, so he's not exactly new. Also, just from the panel posted above, you can see that he's a wiseacre (unlike so many über-polite FSMers) DC also had a shrinking character, the quite-interesting Atom. I take it that (American) super-hero comics weren't very popular in the UK, or if there was a fanbase, comics distribution was maddeningly inconsistent (or consistent if one happens to despise comics!)

I was thinking about when the comic book character was created, rather than the film, although I don't really remember Antman from my exposure to American comics, which (a) was mainly DC - not that I remember the Atom, either, and (b) finished when I was about 11. Always up for some good escapist visual entertainment, though.
