Really like the look of this. Been a while since there was a decent miniaturisation movie and this looks like it could be a lot of fun, even though they seem to have changed quite a bit from the comic books.

Looks cute. I hope there's not too much middling CGI. They should've scored the trailer with "Z to the Rescue".

The major thing going for this film over all the other comic book movies is it's miniature world esthetics.

This Ant-Man trailer looked much more put together and focused than the one I'd seen--that you posted in a thread in January, Chaz--where most of it was The Great Michael Douglas' monologue. The newer trailer had a better mix of what I hope the film actually is. lol

Ridiculous! Ant-Man??? Ant....Man?

No verisimilitude at all. This should have been a straight comedy not an action spectacle.

Why? Ant-Man in the comic books is a serious character (indeed, a bit too serious - riddled with personal problems).

And if done right, I think this could be a cracking movie. It's been a long time since there was a decent flick featuring miniaturisation (Honey, I shrunk The Kids) and with today's CGi abilities, there could be some extremely interesting scenarios.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. The Marvel Studios have pretty much got things right so far, after all.

Yeah, the January trailer looked unsure of itself whereas this latest one (hopefully) captures the totality of the film.

Me and the Missus love Paul Rudd in anything, so we think this will be a hoot 'n' a holler.
It looks like they're going to play it straight, but at the same time not take themselves TOO seriously.
So if they can pull off walking that tightrope, it should be a good time.

I've found the teasers for this film rather intriguing and I feel it has more potential than the average Marvel product. I really liked the trailers up to the point where they started to include some dialog and then it sounded like The Green Lantern movie! I hope that's not the case.

The publicity has been pretty interesting and a bit funny and odd as well. The first trailer I saw for this film actually showcased scenes from Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy! Like they didn't have faith the film could sell itself.

It's not bad. Loose the kitsch "Iron Man landing", loose the typical CGI swooping through tubes (cliche already in the 90s), add colour and buy a computer that finally knows how to animate insects. Oh and stay away from muscle cars to make the hero "wild", and classic car crashes.

It has potential, and to see Michael Douglas in a good guy role is fun.

While Ant-Man was never a major player in the comics, as a kid I always enjoyed his appearances in the Iron Man comic and the Avengers. Comic fans take note: There's a new tie-in (there's mention of the film in a back cover blurb) trade paperback out called "Ant-Man Scott Lang" that reprints some of his best appearances from the late '70s-early '80s, half of which I didn't have. It's a nice-looking book and reproduced in the high-quality four-color style--not that browned-out look that contemporary comics have.

Amazon won't have the book until June 30, but your local comic store should alrwady have it (it was published June 10).

Slightly OT: Charles Thaxton, you will always be "cool" in my book for being a Jack Kirby Thor fan. smile

P.S. I just squished an ant during the writing of this post! Lang was obviously not atop the thing, as I would have been body slammed, I'm sure. wink

I saw the trailer in the cinema a few weeks ago. Looked okay, but I'm suspicious of anyone who wants to be smaller.

I suppose you could get some interesting filmic riffs on being miniature, but the concept smacks of desperation to me. ("So, what now?" "I know, how about someone really tiny, we could call him Antman" "Ha ha ha, that's really funny. Wait, you're serious, aren't you.")

The character--in his original incarnation--was a founding member of the (super-hero) Avengers, back in 1963, so he's not exactly new. smile Also, just from the panel posted above, you can see that he's a wiseacre (unlike so many über-polite FSMers)

DC also had a shrinking character, the quite-interesting Atom.

I take it that (American) super-hero comics weren't very popular in the UK, or if there was a fanbase, comics distribution was maddeningly inconsistent (or consistent if one happens to despise comics!)

I was thinking about when the comic book character was created, rather than the film, although I don't really remember Antman from my exposure to American comics, which (a) was mainly DC - not that I remember the Atom, either, and (b) finished when I was about 11.

Always up for some good escapist visual entertainment, though.
