Danny Elfman guest co-hosts this weekend's edition of NPR's "From the Top," a delightful and frequently funny excursion into the world of children and school students who play classical music: http://www.kusc.org/fromthetop/ Here in L.A., the show broadcasts at 6:00 PM Sundays on KUSC 91.5 FM. Consult local listings, as they say, for the time and station in your neck of the woods.

This recording happened here in Denver back in February. All very hush hush, and Elfman came in at the very beginning of the concert (the concert as is usual with these kind of produced programs is about twice as long as the broadcast) and left right after his bit (whisked back to the airport - given the time frame, I am guessing readers here can guess why). It should be fun. He and Christopher O'Riley, the host and pianist, are great friends apparently. http://www.fromthetop.org/

Yes, I saw the original announcement for the February event when I went today to the show's website. Apparently, the February event was announced on the "From the Top" website so that local fans of the show could book tickets. (The announcement is still up on the Site.) In the on-air promos for this weekend's show, the estimable Mr. O'Riley doesn't mention his friendship with Elfman. On the other hand, he does say that Elfman is "my favorite film composer of all time." *** Thor, Good question. Beats the hell out of me. I have no idea why it's that big, and what's worse, it actually seems to be growing whenever I click on this thread. EVERYBODY RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

The pub radio network where I work carries ftt and we were slightly involved in this event, so that's how I come by this info.
